Chickens get dirty to take a bath! ... A chicken dust bath helps to remove excess oil, as well as external parasites like lice and mites. A dirt bath also maintains the water-resistance of the outer feathers of a chicken. Dust bathing is an important part of keeping chickens healthy and clean.

And also its a lot of fun to watch.
Did your chicken bathe today? Do you have pictures? :wee

Nice pictures!

Have you ever been down at chicken level when one decides to shake out all the dirt from their feathers and get a face-full? Good times.

No, but there have been times where I've seen what looked like smoke and run around looking for a fire, and not find any. Finally it dawned on me that it was clouds of dust from chickens dirt bathing under the porch.

He never would dirt bathe with the hens, either embarrassed or too proud.
I always wondered if they were too busy on 'look out duty' to dust bathe.
My boys didn't/don't bathe as much as the hens,
but when they do I figure everything must be 'safe' so they relax and indulge.
Only my current cock will continue to bathe when I come into the run.

Some dust bathe every day, in the 'Under-Run'.
