Dutch Bantams Breed Thread

Its an OEG cross, possibly with a dutch. Dutch bantams do not have white legs ever, and that bird does not appear to have striping in the hackles as a Dutch should. The bird looks like a typical Dutch OEG cross to me. Legs should be slate grey. Hackle and saddle feathers should be of the same shade of golden for a Light Brown Dutch.

orly...that sucks... because there aren't any OEGB that are the same color as this dude... kind of threw us off... he even has his breast like, spotted, he's really neat... but i guess his legs are way too bright... wait... i think we sprayed him with scarlet oil... and i did photoshop it a bit... i'll check him out tomorrow, and maybe update pics... we'll see...

thx for the input though...

you dont need to have him on a tie cord either. He should do just fine with other roosters.

that's not why i have him on a tie cord... that was the first day we got him, and wanted to take pics... so we put the cord on him so he's a bit easier to catch... i wouldn't want him to jump over to the neighbors all scared to be taken down by a pit bull... so better safe than sorry... i do the same thing to the roosters that are a bit harder to catch...

Well, that show was crazy! Never seen anything like it. It was awesome, though. There were a lot more folks I would have liked to meet in person, but the whole weekend went by so quickly!

Thanks, I am very much enjoying my Dutch. We have built a lot of new pens and I have scrapped any and all plans to breed any LF for the foreseeable future (with the exception of two varieties of Polish) so that I can concentrate more on them. One of my cream light brown pullets was 1st place and reserve variety at the National. I was tickled!

A couple of weeks ago at the Sussex, NJ show I had BV cream light brown with the same pullet, BV & RV blue light brown w/a cockerel & pullet, and the 1st place light brown cockerel. I am learning a lot by getting them out and showing them, and the guys from the Dutch club have just been wonderful with any questions I have.

Did you have Cornish at the National?

Yes. Not the ones I wanted to bring, but some younger backups. Tamara Staples photographed two of my Cornish for The Fairest Fowl--I was totally geeked out. I was with the Modern Game Bantams most of the time. I got a RV for Silver Blue. Competition was fierce over there in the Brown Reds and Birchens.

We will meet one of these days. Maybe in Ohio next year?

I would have been totally geeked out, too, if I got asked by Tamara to photograph my birds! Very cool.

Congrats on your win with your Moderns! I love the velociraptor chickens.

We probably walked right by each other a zillion times, since the bantam Polish & the MGBs were right next to each other and I spent a lot of time in the Polish aisle. Yep, I plan to be at Ohio next year--we'll have to actually meet & say hey in person! I am also considering heading out to Crossroads.

Steve has really nice birds, and he's also a really nice guy. He spent a lot of time chatting with me at the Sussex show in NJ, and I learned a lot by just standing next to the cages & asking him questions! Good luck with the new birds.

(sorry, I can't say I'd be one to have any good advice for you, but I hope you got what you wanted!)
