I’ve been raising and showing Dutch for many years and I’m looking for opinions on the overall quality for show. I’m hoping to find somebody that is familiar with the breed. I feel like after years of breeding with several different roosters i’m not really producing anything better. I’m not sure if I need to try to find some other Dutch to breed with just to bring in new blood line. Quality birds are hard to find. I currently raise light brown and cream light brown.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I haven't bred this breed before... but others and figure I will share what little I can see since so many folks have viewed but not yet commented on your post.

One thing is when I can't find information on my specific breed... I look at other breeds in the color I am working on and see what them folks are doing to correct their issues. Remembering that some breeds call it a different color... eg, some call light brown Partridge. While the female isn't the same... the male does look the same as my Wheaten Ameraucana (they call the females that look like your Silver and the males are different, I think)

As far as I can see... your birds are quite beautiful! :love

Working on the parasitic white fluff in the tail has been one of my biggest challenges. :hmm

For what it's worth... I LOVE BYC and consider it a great resource and wonderful community. :thumbsup But I highly recommend joining a breeders club or two for the breed you're working with.. as the information I have gotten there from some folks working 20+ years with the breed... have a far superior knowledge and insight to the intricacies of the breed. There are some threads and a few people who can give you some real nitty gritty here... but for the most part it's a great STARTER place. Most of what I learned in the beginning was missing the deeper detail and these things I had to learn by trial an error... eg... yes you CAN run black, blue, splash together and get all pure BBS of whatever breed... as so many tell us in the beginning. But NO you won't be doing anything to get NICE blues... etc and if you care about the quality... running BBS together is not really ideal... IMO and experience.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I love to see folks working on quality breeding projects and wish you the best in your adventures! :fl

Dutch Bantam roosters are supposed to have white fluff at the base of the tail—the standard specifically requires it. It is not “parasitic white fluff.”
