Dyeing the chicks

I have eggs in the bator right now to do this. My daughter is going to do it as her science fair project. I am really curious how it turns out for you. I'll be looking forward to some pics. Thanks for posting. I was nervous to post about it out of fear of negative feedback. Thx.

I seen this thread about 4 days too late! What a fun idea for kids..... Good luck everyone! I may try this for after my current eggs hatch this weekend.

SO... If you're injecting liquid into the egg, do you need to drop your humidity a bit afterwards to compensate? Like, does the extra liquid in the egg not have to be evaporated through the shell before the chick hatches? Or is half a ml so small an amount that it doesn't really make a difference to the chick?

I think thats why they do it at such a young stage in the incubation, so that the dye can be absorbed before hatch date.

It says to incubate as normal.

Tonight will be day 5> I still haven't candled. I am fighting the urge until day 7. Good luck with the dyeing this Friday. Can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Keep us posted.

I am very concerned about killing the chicks. I have some encouragement though knowing other people have done it successfully. I have 23 eggs in the bator right now. I think we are only going to inject 6 or so. Will post pics if all goes well.
