if you can, get some Albon...
its a great broadspectrum antibiotic. Treats more that just cocci. Can get it from a vet. Get it in liquid, .5ml 2 times a day. Keep her warm, with plenty of water at all times.
Well, went to the feed store. I asked for cattle wormer, the guy kinda looked at me funny, but directed me to Valbazen. They didn't have Ivermectin. The Valbazen was $60, but I've heard that over the internet it can be like $36? So were going to order it online..hopefully it get's here on time.
How long do you think she can hang on? She's getting worse everyday. She eats and drinks, but it takes a lot of effort, so she sleeps most of the time. It's really hard seeing her like this, as she's one of my favorites.
I check her poop everyday and see no sign of worms. It's just really bad looking poop. I've check her for mites/lice and see no sign of anything, my other chickens do not have any either.
So should I just go ahead and order Valbazen? I've heard that's the strongest, correct? I really don't know much about wormers.
Oh and if we gave her yoghurt, ACV,..etc. Would it at least help her a little? Or would the worms get to it before her body can absorb it? Or even if she did absorb it would the worms take it all out again? Egh, those doggone worms.
She died last night. I found her in the morning and (with disposable gloves) further investigated her underside. It was, sadly, swollen as a beach ball. Some of her feathers were balding and the skin was red/purple. Her vent was extremely messy and swollen purple. I would have taken some pictures, but I think it's pretty obvious that she had worms...and plus the pictures would've been graphic and I know some of our younger BYC members had to be taken into consideration, so I decided against it.
What's so cruddy about it is that the wormer (Valbazen) would've been here tomorrow.
I suppose I can worm the other chickens.
And do you give 1/2 a milliliter to each standard size chicken?
Valbazen is here. A 100 ml bottle. How much am I supposed to give each standard sized chicken, and how much for banties? I'm going to worm all my chickens with Valbazen.
Poor dolly! I'm sorry. I'm not sure n the Valbazen dosage, but I'm sure it's been discussed before, so you should be able to find it with a search. I would definitely do all of them.
I think you should have done an autopsy - checked her insides good so you can see if she really had worms - put on some rubber gloves and cut her up to check her insides - maybe it wasn't worms - how do you know?
