E-Books and devices

I did see a post once that said if you have a Blackberry you don't need one of those other jobbers, but don't quote me on that.

This whole craze just makes me want to cry.

To think of printed books going the way of the 8-track, VHS, Cassettes, etc. is just sad. But, at least I won't have to buy some new device and another copy of one I already have in order to enjoy it... guess that's something.

Ok. Then just continue to choose not to get one. No skin off my nose. I am happy with mine and was offering my review to the person who asked, nothing more.

I think i better off waiting a bit so they can get the bugs worked out. I would love to read in the dark without having a campfire or lantern to read a book. Yes I love paper books, nothing like the smell of paper or print and it can be dried when it gets damp from the morning dew in the mornings LOL! With that Ebook, I can not take that chance nor I want something that would drain the power pretty bad.

^ That brings up a question for me... how good are these things 'in the elements'... if the thing gets exposed to dew, high humidity, etc once or frequently will it effect it? Or is it sealed up tight like those underwater/sporty cameras? If folks are thinking of reading at home this wouldn't be too bad, especially with A/C. But if you're talking campouts, or even reading in the tub, I wonder if they'd hold up?

Anyone know?

I have a nook 3G and I LOVE the thing!

It works very well, the selection of books is amazing, easy to use, built in MP3 player, displays documents and pictures beautifully, and they just came out with a nook Wifi, for only $150! The nook 3G is $200.00. I bought mine for $300, so I wanted to pull out my hair!

(But their warranty is very good. I had a cosmetic scratch I put on it on the nook, I called and without the extended warranty they sent me a brand new one in box! Not even refurb!)

I LOVE B&N, you can read all the books in the database free in store, and they have tons of freebies each week and a daily blog that's quite hilarious!

Definately a

ETA Oh and yes, librarires do have databases for free ebooks.

Now that is neat about the freebies... but do they download or just view?

Wonder just how big the storage will get? IE the ipods just keep getting higher and higher.

Ohh speaking of ipods and storage... does your device hold everything or is there a thing like itunes that holds your library (HA!) and your device only holds what you want on hand right then?

The freebies are exactly the same as the books. Actually, they are books that the publisher allows to be given away for one week. (Normally the cost money. I LOVE Free Fridays!)

And yes, the device can hold everything you want, or can be stored. The books are stored online in your library, and on your device. If you want to get rid of a book off your nook, you Archive it. If you want to get an Archived book back, you just go to it and open it. You can also delete/add songs and books through the computer. It is set up the exact same as a camera, where you can drag and drop.

ETA. Oh, and any books you own can simultaneously be viewed on the computer in the B&N Desktop Software, on an iPad through the app, an iPod touch app, or on Blackberry's and Android smartphones.
