eagle eye/ i think she is slowly dieing!!! :-(

mites cause anemia and will make the chicken very sick which in turn stops them from laying and also from wanting to eat or drink. so you have your work cut out for ya, after treating her you'll have to make sure she is eating and drinking give her lots of yogurt scrambled eggs, even canned premium cat food, salmon canned, even tuna.. along with her regular feed. and if you can get some poultry drench or poly-vi-sol w/o iron you can even give her that. the latter 2 goes in her water or dribble on her beak to get her to drink for ya..

if you got sevin you can put it into an old sock and dust that way or put the sevin into a plastic bag put the chicken into the bag with head out close bag around the neck and shake making sure not to get it into her face.. I've done the latter and it works real good. Just support her bottom as your shaking.

how long does the powder take to take effect? its been maybe like an hour and a half and she still wont eat/drink she wont move around. the only difference is now she can lift up her head and look around. but hey its a change! also she is still panting out of her mouth heavily. what does that mean? is she just really tired and her strength is worn?

do you have a medicine dropper laying around that you saved from some meds? try putting water or watered down plain yogurt in it and dribble it on the side of her beak and see if she'll drink for you.. if she is severely anemic it's going to take a while for her to recover from this.. it will probably take a couple of days for all the mites to die also, then if she makes it you'll have to treat her again in a week..

it should start working pretty much right away, but she'll start getting better in a few days

roosterlover she's been sick for a while now and you've done the best you can. Think about what's best for her and put her down humanly. She is clearly suffering. I'm trying not to sound angry but she is your pet and it is your responsibility to give her the best life you can and this is not it. The pictures of her on line have shown her getting more frail and more sick.

I realize it will be hard on you (I've had to put hen's down as well) but you have to do what is best for her.

The best pet owners do what is best for their pet and not themselves. They put the pet first.

Please don't let her suffer any longer. You are being selfish and cruel.

If you can't do it yourself call a vet first thing in the morning to make an appointment to put her to sleep. If you can not afford the vet appointment e-mail me with the vets name and phone number and I will pay the bill.

Out of the brooder- I don't think you're necessarily being cruel, you're chicken crazy like the rest of us :~)

You are doing the best that you can! Find peace in knowing that, please. You seem like a wonderful "mommy". I would get her settled for the night, say a prayer and go to bed. Check on her in the morning and then make any decisions.....
