I've heard they are already or getting ready to hand out iodine tablets/pills to those who are still alive in that area.

My friends cousin Sharon is accounted for, she lives in Sendai -- she is in an evactuation center for now..
...and unfortunately; his other cousin Zenny, has not been; altho he lives in Tokyo...

Again, people, this is a tritium release of trace amounts that occur naturally in water, and it is not like what people are making it out to be.

It is normal to distribute iodine pills and it calms a lot of nerves, it's the right thing to do. There is NO indication of any major leak, core breach or anything that would cause widespread danger.

I'm no nuclear power fan but please let's not spread panic and cause mass hysteria - this is not good for the people working at the plant, you can be sure of that, everything is designed to keep them away from any gunk but they do what they have to do.

Those guys are the real heroes- they are holding the line.

That RAD - stuff - RAD is a basically obsolete measurement and it is VERY unlikely that ANYONE telling you ANYTHING about 'RADS' has a single clue about what has happened in Japan. RADS is units of radiation absorbed so it isn't even a measurement a CLOUD CAN HAVE.

That 'nuclear fallout map' that's going around the internet, originated from - let us call it a non-involved party. Somebody on a forum, in other words, just drew that thing up and started sending it to different forums.

SO - BACK TO REALITY.

Thanks for explaining it more welsummerchicks. I didnt like the overreaction to this situation, I know it has a lot of toxic stuff in them, but I also know that extreme precautions are taken for any problems that will happen.

Well I have an update.

The ambassador is making an announcement right now.

AGAIN - no meltdown. NO CORE BURN.

These are SERIOUS problems, they are NOT GOOD for people in the immediate area. This is no party but they are holding the line.

THERE IS NOT ANY EVIDENCE OF A CORE MELT. REPORTS THE US IS GETTING ARE WRONG.

Everyone is getting moved out within 20k - they are taking a supremely cautious approach and evacuating a very wide area - BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU DO. That is just the right thing to do.

This is as of this minute, 6:03 PM and Washington is getting updated every hour as to the status and progress of their work.

There was an explosion OF AN OUTER BUILDING.

Pressure from steam blew up an outer building. This was a very dramatic look. Lots of steam, concrete, kablooey.

ONE rod had some damage.

The safety rods are boron and they shut down the reaction.

Everyone is on the hustle - putting in water, bringing in the boron, ALL cooling channels ARE WORKING.

The PROBLEM was the wave which flooded out their backup diesel generators - so they go to battery and more battery are being brought in for them.
