It is a Chocolate Birchen English Orpington. Eventually I will have one!!!

Where do people in this part of the state buy chicks? The five ladies I have now are from Runnings last spring, and I love them, but if I add any this year, I'd like to be able to have a little more choice when it comes to breeds. Are there breeders in the area at all?

I ordered mine direct from Cackle Hatchery. Our local Bomgaars will allow you to order small numbers of breeds with their large orders. Example being 5 ees and 5 brahmas. Not one of this one of that and one of these. If that makes sense.

I think places like Runnings or other "farm stores" will allow you to order different varieties. (Most have chick days in the spring) But it is nice they have a few there for the "impulse" buys too.

I should ask them. That's where my girls are from, and I know they do order from a couple hatcheries, so maybe I could ask for a specific breed, or at least maybe pre order if they're getting one that I like. Maybe I'll give them a call.

My luck just never changes. Coons got my Silver Laced Rooster this summer. Only Roo I had for the hens. Last year the Swedish Flower Hen rooster died.

Now to top off the flower hen curse some stray dog comes and kills the flower hen rooster!

Live on the edge of town so can't have a surplus of roosters due to noise. When you lose one it really sets you back!

The curse never seems to affect the crossbreeds or expendable birds. Just the ones we want to keep.

So if anyone near Flandreau has a Swedish Flower Hen Rooster for sale please let me know.
