I got six Easter Eggers ("Ameracaunas" according to the person I got them from) and this one has me guessing. They were all supposed to be pullets, but I keep doing a double take on this one. It only has a single row pea comb, and isn't bright in the face at all (I have a roo in a brooder who is bright red at 8 weeks). The red shoulders have me waiting on a crow, but this bird has muddy red splattering through a lot of it's body that show up in person. It has lacing over it's entire body, but is more upright than the rest. On the one hand, I'm declaring it "rooster", but on the other, I have a 2 year old hen that has a stature pretty similar to this one at the same age.

What's your vote?

I'm going to say pullet...aside from the color which *almost* fits the typical male patterning there are no other indicators that point to cockerel and all appear pullet.
I do understand having second thoughts, though, as our Hazel is VERY similar and also gave me pause at about this same age as I was seeing her coloration develop.

I felt so bad for the guy we got them from-we traded three breeding rabbits for six pullets-he sent me pictures of the ones he had. He paid for "Ameraucanas" and had Easter Eggers. He paid for "all pullets" and I counted five roosters just from the two pics he sent me. I mean sickle feathers and everything. He was very new to chickens, so I explained a few of the "never fail" sexing tips (saddle and hackle feathers being pointy, glossy black tail feathers, redder faces, etc).

Heck, a rooster is no big deal here, I was planning on eating the rabbits, so getting a bonus roo would have just meant plucking instead of skinning. But now we wait and see what colors I wind up with when they start laying (I have four EE hens, every one laid sky blue. I want a GREEN!)
