Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

The middle one is likely a cockerel. Red comb and red patches on the wings.
The wings do not mean cockerel. My EE has the same wings, and considering she lays green eggs daily, she is definitely not a Rooster.

For the longest time I thought that my white EE with red was a boy, because she was attacking with her feet, and was a total biotch. She killed my silkie roo that she grew up with in her anger. I threw her to the hens after that, and I posted pics of how she now gives hugs and acts like she did before her adolescence phase. I am not saying that yours is not a cockerel, but the coloring on the wings does not look like male coloring.

It isn't the wings, it's the comb.
I was responding to April about the red on the wings. My EE's comb was also larger and darker colored at that age, but I was just saying that the wing color in the 3rd bird does not mean male.

I want to thank you all for your posts to my question. This is the first time I have ever owned Easter Eggers and not quite sure about them. They don’t seem to want to be touched at all. Is this normal?

Yes. The priority for EEs as far as the hatcheries are concerned is production and egg color. Most of the ones I've gotten have been rather flighty but terrific layers. I have a 7YO EE hen that still lays. Really.

And for your amusement, a pic of the cockerel I had that looked like yours.

Normal for most chickens I'd say. But then I'm fairly hands off so maybe people that handle their little ones frequently every day have different results.

EEs are, presumably, more "flighty" than some other breeds. Flighty not meaning they fly a lot but that they will avoid close proximity to people. Chickens are a prey species, it doesn't pay to be incautious. Most of my hens will freak a bit if they are in the "feed room" and I go in. They feel trapped and that means potential death to their little chicken brains. But if I stand just inside the door, they calm down and walk out. ALL of my birds will eat from my hands but I can pick up only 2 of them and then only when they squat. And they don't want to stay long.

I had to catch one of my BA's yesterday. She was limping a bit. I thought maybe she had a foot problem but discovered her orange leg band had ridden up and gotten stuck, I guess it was causing some pressure. She wasn't real happy with me while I fixed it but then walked away calmly when I put her down.
