As my little Easter Eggers are growing, I'm starting to worry that a few of these little buggers may be cockerels. I've heard that looking at the ridges/combs are a good sign for determining sex but since this is my first flock, I figured I'd take it to the experts! These three are the only three so far that have the more pronounced ridges/combs.

Two photos of each chick in question. One of comb/ridge and one of coloring/feathers. All birds are around 4-5 weeks old.

I'm going to be sad if any of mine are cockerels as we are not allowed to have them in our city ordinances 😭 ! If anyone knows of safe locations that will take them in the central Utah area, please let me know!

Thanks for the help!

Has anyone had success with keeping cockerels within city limits? My neighbor said they used to have one that never crowed (she said it was because he never had another to show him how), so they kept him and no one knew (or cared)....I'd hate to have to give him away (if it is a him).

Thanks for helping!

Cockerels do Not need a rooster to show them how to crow ; ) some are quieter than others, some are noisier, one things for sure they don't crow just when the sun comes up haha, ours would crow all day just for fun it seemed! I'm in the suburbs, outside of limits, but I'd see why no roosters in the city!

We tried a collar on two different roosters (three different collars tried on both) and it just seemed like they really hated it :'( so we just decided we'd re-home them to somewhere they could crow nonstop in peace :D
That's too bad. Thanks for your feedback on them! I wondered how the quality of life for the roosters would be with one on!
