Easter Egger?

Sort of. He flogged me once. But thats pretty good overall. He flogged me once and pecked my shoes 2-3 times. I do not believe in holding roosters upside down or scaring them. If I have to, I bring a shovel with me whenever I go into the chicken pen. I do not touch him with it, its basically for shielding purposes.
Ah, see, that is why I am intimated to get one! I don't mind eating fertile eggs and would love to have a hen go broody on some, but I plan on having another child soon in addition to the one I have, and just, ugh, don't want to risk it.

Yeah...that can definitely be a problem. Nice roosters are like gold! Mean ones are as good as stew, especially those that really hurt people. We have hatched several of Nuggets offspring. Its truly a great experience! Especially for children!!!

If you cannot keep a rooster (which is reasonable), you may want to look into buying fertile eggs instead. I have bought them in the past. Then, you can rehome any males that you have. Or if you are into butchering, that too. I can help you identify any cockerels at 6-8 weeks of age, sometimes earlier and sometimes later. I am sure it will be a great family experience! Theres truly nothing like hatching with a broody!! 😍

The chicks are adorable! ❤️❤️❤️

Gets me everytime 🤣 😍 CHICKEN MATH!

Oh goodness! They are precious! Thanks for sharing. They grow up so fast!

Ah, see, I would feel so sad to love one that turned out to be male just to rehome him! I thought about getting straight runs before as well, but the same issue stays. So what I think I will do is simply wait for one of my hens to go broody, then slip some chicks under her while she sleeps!

Anyhow, how do you purchase fertilized eggs? I have seen them for sale from online hatcheries, however, you have to buy way too many than I would need.

I don’t know. I’d be miserable without them though.
I apologize! I missed this message.

But now that I know the love a chicken can offer and how wonderful they are, I would be sooo miserable without them. I hate that they only live a few years hah. Mine are so happy and friendly. They make my day when I spend time with them.

Ebay has some. I have gotten from ebay personally. However, they ship, and the eggs tend to have lower hatch rates when shipped. Its a bummer to have dead eggs :(

So, what I recommend is to get in touch with local breeders/backyard chickens owners who sell fertile eggs. Neighbors and nearby Craigslist ads may be good. I personally trust those who show my around their flock, but its not always possible.

That is a fantastic idea! eBay really does have everything haha.

This is also a good idea. I recently joined a neighbor "social media" type thing and I could definitely ask then. But with my luck, I'd have all males! Haha. So you are in California? I'm originally from Utah. I love the west. I wish I could pack up and move!

I suppose I could get sex links if I truly want to watch the beauty of mother and babies. That way I could know from day one what to do. I wish so much I could handle a rooster. But it just seems like unnecessary stress to have. I plan on starting my garden next year and the following year bringing sheep onto my land to raise and possibly goats.

Oh I'll have to check it out. Is there a link? I recently made a FB page just to join livestock groups haha.
