Easter Eggers

Current pictures of my EE's. They are now 7 months old, 28 weeks, but not laying yet. I am concerned with them not laying, they have little red combs and have been making nest in the dirt for two weeks . I have heard that some don't lay until 36 weeks. I also have an Ameraucana the same age but not laying. They have not been under any stress, etc. so that cannot be the reason. Maybe the change in weather has hindered them abit. I am getting anxious to see what color their eggs will be. They are beautiful birds, I love them to pieces. Maybe soon I will get eggs.

soon hopefully, My birds all turned off egg laying - and most chickens want 14 or more hours of light. I'm not expecting mine to start up until the daylight is longer.....

Hard to tell in that light but the legs look green/grey. That's usually pretty indicative. Mine have that hooked beak too. Neat markings!

I have put red bulbs in my lights in my coop. I also have them on a timer so that the girls get 14hrs of light a day. Maybe this will help with production.

This is Lily, she was my first Easter Egger. Unfortunately, she never laid and egg. My dog killed her before she ever did.

Since then, I have gotten this guy at a feed store. But, you know, Cookie will never lay an egg either.

So at the fall Carolina Chickenstock I got two chicks, Jay and Willow. I think both of them are also cockerels and will never lay an egg. It might be a while before I finally have a blue or green egg in my basket. Hopefully I will get some more chicks this spring. I will post pictures of Jay and Willow when I get them.

Cookie is the prettiest rooster I've seen in a long time. So sorry about Lily.

I love seeing all these great pictures of Easter Eggers! The prospect of having blue or green eggs has been very exciting for our nieces and nephew (I've never seen kids so excited about eggs!)

Here's Dottie, she's 6 months old and lays light blue eggs.

Well the light thingy helped and I now have colored eggs from my hens. Blue and green eggs from the Easter Egger and Ameraucana(SP). I was so excited to finally get colored eggs. They have laid everyday since they started and the eggs are getting bigger and brighter in color. This was Lilly Littles first egg. It was really light in color and I thought a good size for first egg.

Congratulations! Now, was it the lights or was it the passage of more time? Would they have starated without lights? Sounds like you have good colors and good production. Yay.
