What if they do both?? Yeah...I can see you patiently sorting out your chicks.

Something Bario and I discussed this morning. The fact that chickens are such a huge part of family life in this area it really puzzles me why farm stores carry such a small amount of products for specifically chickens. To "encourage" places like TSC I think it may help if everyone starts suggesting it to these stores. Safety in numbers and the squeaky wheel usually gets oiled the quickest. So....if we start asking for products like Oxine..etc. maybe they will start carrying some things we really need and we won't have to order so much.

Also...if anyone wants to try or needs Oxine let me know...I have no problem in sharing. A little goes a long way. It isn't as much the cost of the product sometimes as it is the extravagant shipping cost the companies charge. It may be of use if some of us combine ordering products too!

Good luck with that. I use the standlee compressed bales of Timothy for my rabbits. TSC has the straight alfalfa ones. They recently started carrying alfalfa/grass hay. I asked them if they could order the timothy for me. Nope. What the heck. I felt like it was just them not wanting to bother with me. Maybe I need to talk to someone else there?

so instead of me buying it from TSC, I am buying it from a friend's feed store in NC every so often when I'm over there. Gee, that makes sense. Since they DO carry the standlee compressed bales (just not the 'flavor' I want) seems it would be easy to order.

I would also KILL to find a darn Blue Seal rabbit feed dealer out here. Or convince a store to become one. I would easily use 200+lbs of rabbit feed a month, as would a friend of mine. It's good stuff.

@ EVERYONE. Please make a list of what you can not find that you would love to be able to get. I am going to work on getting it all wholesale or as a dealer. No markup, just so we have a place to get things here in East TN. I contacted TSC as well about a few things and had the regional discussion with them about adjusting their stock to suit the area. They looked at me like I was an alien!! Co-op was a little better but still could not get certain things. I am soooo tired of that. I too would like to try Blue Seal breeder pellets for the hens, but I am not driving to Cullowee to get it and I am sure not paying shipping on 50 lb bags LOL. Email me all your lists please and ill start working on contacting the manufactures.

How many rabbits do you have? Those tiny things can't eat THAT much feed in a month! Have you talked to Laurie at LC? She may be willing to order it if she has enough costumers buying... but just depends... she can also give a 10% discount for buying a ton and you can mix/match....

I've started buying feed up in Oliver Springs at that Green Farm and Feed place. A guy I used to work with is son of the owner and they have much better pricing than LC feeds. I don't even know what LC Feeds is up to these days but it was $2 a bag cheaper at the Green's place when I switched over. They have a cheap rabbit feed I hve been trying too, although I would really prefer Blue Seal (if I could get it).

I use approx (monthly)

200lbs of rabbit feed
200lbs of chicken feed

I have a friend who uses approx

300-400lbs of rabbit feed

She also gets the Blue Seal guinea pig food, as I would like to as well. I would guess she uses 50+lbs of guinea pig feed a month or two.

when we have asked Blue Seal in the past, they have a 1-ton minimum for dealers. I am hopeful they could mix/match types to make the ton...IE, rabbit, guinea pig, chicken, horse, etc. If so, seems like we could come up with a ton between the group of us all.

If buying a ton a month, I would use combined 800lbs of feed between me and my rabbit friend. Alright, who needs 1400lbs of feed a month? LOL. There has got to be 5 people on here who use 200-300lbs a month.

I use about 200 pounds of flock rasier or gamebird feed. If that can make up the ton....
We use less than 10 pounds of guinea pig feed

I use app. 250 lbs. chicken feed and right now around 100-150 horse feed if they will let you mix and match. Depending on the price I would be willing a few bags extra in order to make enough for the order. I am sure we could talk to others we know who are not on BYC about going with us as well.

Thanks Bario...sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns!
