Its easier if you wait till about 9pm so they are zombied out. Also easier with two people. I kind of get them in a weird headlock to do it..but someone holding them for you is much easier probably. Thumb and forefinger on each side of beak and tilt head back "slightly" they will usually open right up. try a half at a time and give them a second to swallow until you get used to pushing the full cc slowly so they dont choke. Another thing that helps is just to let go of the beak after giving it to them, because if you have the head back too far they dont want to swallow right. I never had one spit it back out at me, LOL. barnqueen or Nella...you care to share any tricks that worked for you gals?

@ all

The exact undiluted valbazen dosage is posted on my page if you ever need it. I did some exhaustive reading on two blind studies involving chickens after a very smart man pointed out that my math was slightly off. What is stated on my page is exact to the 1/100th of a cc.

I keep looking at it....and looking at it. I think the suspense is going to win out. Will let you know what it has in it.

On worming...I had to do mine by myself. I sit down with them under my left arm. Then I move my left hand up to hold around their head with thumb and forefinger at their beak. With a little pressure I get it open enough to stick the tip in and like Bario suggested do half a dose at a time. On the Bantams....I lay them on their back and pull their head up a bit so they don't get choked and do the same as with the LG. Just a little bit at a time.

your not supposed to be out there putting those hens in half nelsons with your knee. Do I need to call your husband? LOL

....so far he has not caught me though I think he has his suspicions. The chickens have been pretty good and behaved while I worked with them except for my Part. Silkie roo. He is in with 2 hens and when I reached in he did his little "Leave us alone" dance but I ignored him and reached on in to get one pullet...he grabbed my pinky and would not let go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now correct me if I am wrong. Aren't silkies known for their docile personality and such great choice for children?? Obviously this roo missed that memo.

I have a question. I wonder if the eggs that cannot be eaten due to worming can be incubated??? I love being a chicken mad scientist (along with a friend in Ohio) and think I am going to try just to see what happens. You never know unless you try.

Ugh, lost a darn chicken today. Stew #3, one of my older RIR girls. Only have one Stew left now (lost Stew #2 recently and sold Stew #4 last year). Looks like a hawk attack but I will have a better idea in the daylight tomorrow.....I left the evidence and body for now, just so I can look better in the AM. Maybe I will come out to a hawk feasting.

I love that you'll take her. She's a real fatty, now. I lied to you, though. A couple of days ago it was a mole, not a mouse, she brought to us. TODAY it was a mouse...

Now I just have to break it to DD. She bought a Christmas present for Whiskers...

Think I read that the wormer makes the eggs infertile. I don't think it would hurt to try, though.
