Wow...that is incredible! I know nothing of those little things, but I have to admit they are really nice looking. Great job!! We sure do miss you around here though

Seems like you and Lori stopped hanging around about the same time.......so much talent, gone in a heartbeat

I dunno, its not a Knoxville park.

Stang...I don't mind at all chipping in to get the pavilion. If we have 10 people attend that would only be $3 each and after the skies opening at the one I did....I think it is worth having some cover overhead. What date is it going to be on? I know we have a few weekends we will be out of town and want to make sure I get to attend! Hey...how about games at this one??

@Grawg...it is possible your pavilion was no charge because of the time of year. At the one we used last month there was no charge from Nov. to last day of March.

Goats and chickens usually get along great. My father in law has "Rufus" with his chickens and they absolutely love each other. I have seen many pics of chickens riding goats around, LOL
It might be easier if you get yourself a killing cone for the chickens. I have tried every way under the sun and ended up going back to an axe, but that can be traumatic watching a chicken run around headless spurting blood everywhere

You and stangs DH could get together on their killing day and form an assembly line for all the chickens. That way everybody wins and it is truly nice to have support your first few times. I know they would probably appreciate the help as well.

My granddaddy would tie them upside down to the clothes line, cut their throats to let them bleed out, not bruise their breast, or break their keels.

If you could find an old highway cone, cut a few inches off the top of it, and nail it up some where, it should do very well.

A cigarette and blindfold are optional for the soon to be departed.

Most of the time they chicken up and refuse both.

Just popping on for a minute to brag.

Lionhead nationals last weekend.

My smoke pearl doe got Best of Variety Smoke Pearl. My sable point doe got 1st place junior Sable Pt doe.

On sunday, there was a regular show, with over 200 lionheads. My sable point doe got Best of BREED! My Pt white buck got Best Opposite Sex of Variety Pt White.

Great weekend.

Nella bean your rabbits are fantastic! I keep showing my Hubby yours and saying wouldn't the kids love it! Also how great it would be to add rabbit litter to our chicken litter in the compost! I haven't won him over yet. But, I bet in a year or so when my 4 year old daddy's girl ask we'll get one. But he said ok to meat rabbits go figure. But he knows if something fluffy comes to our house it stays. Just like Pookey the silver lace giant cochin. Her eggs are medium. She isn't a broody. She is just yard candy

She is the roosters favorite girl too.

dncarr 09 Wisner farms also teaches you how to do the kill properly as well as the eviseration process. I found that very helpful. They do use pluckers to to do the plucking really cool.I know from where you are it is a bit of a drive but worth the experience.
We are also currently raising some meaties their process date is when it is gonna be very hot middle of July.
barnie.gif
it does take a bit of getting used to process something you have raised & takes a little while before you can eat one but when you do omg the taste is sooo good.

Now the only chicken we eat is what we have raised. We will be doing 2 batches this year, due to space restaints we can only raise 20 at a time.
If your offer of letting me help is still there, I'm still willing in order to gain some experience in the whole process. I know the scheduling didn't work out last time, but just let me know a time and I'll do my best to make it.

@tnbarnqueen It's possible that is the reason for no charge on the pavilion. I'm pretty sure folks just show up and use them throughout the summer as well.

I love those bunnies, Nella. I can see how they cleaned up at the shows. And that was a national competition?!? Awesome!

I really like the SL Cochin, Peach. I didn't realize that such nicely laced ones existed.

Library, you can block the boxes off pretty easily. Cardboard and duct tape will keep them out. I've used just duct tape before and put a big "X" across the front. It's not pretty, but it worked. You could also go in and take them out of the box and put them on the roost after bedtime each night. Once it's dark they don't move. I do that with the young birds because I'm too impatient to let them figure it out themselves.

Well, it's raining here today. I went out to take care of the chickens. I looked in on my BCM who is broody. She had 3 babies walking around the inside of the lil coop area. After it stops raining I will go out and do a head count and pull out broken shells and funky left overs. It is an awful smell if not cleaned up asap. Last time I left it for 3 days hoping the rest of the eggs would hatch. I wont do that again. But Mammie is a pecker. She hates us putting our hands in the nest. She had 12 eggs I'm hoping for at least 6 to hatch. She wasn't a very good broody at first. My girl let her out of the chicken tractor 1 weeks ago. Instead of going back to her eggs to sit, she went to the coop and sat on fresh laid one. After a fight I got her off the new eggs and put her back in the tractor. Stupid chicken. Maybe she will be a better mother than broody. I did a head count of everyone last night. I lost 11 chicks in 2 weeks. Only lost 1 BCM. The hawk liked the light grey and splash EE's. I guess they are easier to see. So now all but one is locked up. I thought I had everyone on lock down. This morning while tending the chickens this little blue EE cockerel come running around the house. I think he must have been lost last night and just slept under the porch. I'll catch him tonight!
With that in mind I have:
15 blue olive egger pullets
10 BCM cockerels
3 O EE cockerels
2 blue copper Marans cockerel
1 maran cochin cockerel
2 splash O EE cockerels
FOR SALE
Not as bad as last year I have more pullets than cockerels this time. 28 pullets and 18 cockerels. Maybe the cockerels where the first choice for the hawk. Or maybe the boys where just braver and took more chances to get bugs in the open.

My 2 converted kennels. I have (2) 6x4x4 pens coming. I'm going to put them inside the 10x10x6 runs.
They are on legs so they will still have the 10x10 floor space.
I still need to chicken wire the top. Also need to set up my flock shock wires around the pens

Almost finished with the main coop. Roof panels put on and some more concrete siding.
Also need a door and window for the closet on the end.
Since I'm adding more chickens I need more perches inside. I just have one roll in there now.
I found a glass and metal door on craigslist. Think I may do that instead of a window and door.
I am making a huge windchime out of copper & aluminum pipe found on the property.
It is going to hang on the post sticking out of the wall.
The people we bought this house from used the creek and woods as a dump.
We have pulled out 3 truck loads and a 16' trailer full of metal so far.
Including a 400lbs tank of some kind. The junk yard wouldn't buy it.
We have to cut a man size hole in it first. ;-P
Still lots in the woods. Car parts, appliances, you name it!
All look to be 50 years old or so. I haven't found a rare item yet LOL

thanks y'all! I blocked off one w a piece of wood but she hopped in the other one :/ I am gonna block the other one off tonight!

Mr.library said no more than 3 :) we'll see...lol.

I really want to add an Orpington to our flock. Anybody have one for me?

Nella-love your bunnies! Gee maybe I need some of those now!

Bairo-tell me about these injections...again a newbie question :)

Thank you. Pookey is a pet. So she has a free pass forever.
The fat bottom girls! No one misses the free bird feed from the feeders.

She has a solid fluffy bottom. A little lace on the legs. She isn't perfect but she had a pretty baby with my roo.

Pookey's baby. The only one that made it and it's a boy! Anyone want him a Maran/cochin mix.
He is going to be a big boy, with fluffy feet. 7 weeks old and he is bigger than his hatch mates.
