Really a snake!!! Maybe a cat would be better than a snake. Those of you how have cats, do you have rat/mice problems? Just not sure I can talk DH into a cat....

which pic did they use?

The photos of the B/W AM chicks I hatched from Tennessee chicken's eggs...those chicks where the sweetest little things. Of coarse it might be because 4 out of 5 where boys....

thanks guys . I think it was a coyote. How can you trap one?
Coyote's are real bad over here in Gatlinburg too, the neighbor said a pack took down a horse about a mile away from my house. If you go out at night you can hear howling, it makes your blood curdle and drives the dogs crazy. My chickens survived my mom watching them, but I let them free range while I was gone Sunday afternoon. I came home to a pile of feather and a missing Blue Orpington rooster. I am so sad he is gone. Not sure what I was thinking. I guess it could have been worse. They only took one. I think it was a coyote. I am sure he was a nice big meal for him. I bet he weighted over 10 pounds. I usually leave a dog out while they are out, that seems to keep them away, but Sway was in the house on Sunday.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am not sure about trapping them but I think you are able to shoot them year round.

Eastern Kings look very menacing but are great to have around. We have a lot of black rat snakes around this area also...but they can be a little aggressive. I'll take the eastern kings any time. I actually look for them to come back every spring.

here is a good pic of a young one
Okay, for the photo alone, we aren't friends anymore. Loading up the gun now.

Bairo, the dog is beautiful. 100 pound dog is a big dog.

We read where the government brought the coyotes in to handle the rabbit/racoon problem. So thank the government.

We bought a trap for $140 dollars from TS. It has a small cage inside of it for you to put an animal. The coyote goes in to get the small animal, and he's trapped. (small animal unharmed) However, when Tommy brought home two rabbits to use as bait, it cost him over $350 because I wanted to keep the rabbits. lol When Tommy brought home two chickens to use as bait, it cost him $3,500 becauase I wanted to keep the chickens.

So Tommy has bought a treble hook. (I think that is how you say it) You hang it from a tree with a piece of meat. You have to hang it out far enough that the racoons don't get it. (we don't kill racoons here) It hooks in their mouth, but you have to kill the coyote. Warning: if you have a dog that is in the area of the coyote, do not use the treble hook because it will be easy to access by your dog.

Our game camera shows we have five coyotes here. I think they are gorgeous, but I am scared of them.

*side note: when I let my pittbull out of the house and and said "sic", he went up to it and sniffed it's butt. Then the coyote walked off. WHAT?

I do not have cats myself but my neighbor has like 20 cats that are always in my yard and barn. I still have mice and rats. Obviously they are too well fed.

Does anyone have any Silver Penciled Rock Roo's or anyone willing to sell any eggs? I am looking for non-hatchery quality bloodlines. It seems like I always end up with either all roosters or all hens in every breed. Thanks to Genelda, I have plenty of SFH's in roosters and hens

My cat is always hunting! The best cats are female, the males are lazy!

She can't catch everything, like I have a family of field mice that keep coming back because I keep letting the grass get out of hand, but other than that, she'll hunt mice/birds/moles.
