Thanks. I have one of the red heat bulbs on a dimmer switch so I can turn it way down. I will check them & see how they are doing as the temps drop after tomorrow. I am such a worry wort dh says I coddle the animals too much.

You also need to stop posting those pics of the baby bunnies. They are tooooo cute! Makes me want one but its not going to happen. I would want to put it in the house, litter box train it, etc. and the other "kids" would go nuts. So no baby bunnies for me.... but can we have visitation??? You know, coddle cuddle time.

HAHA!! If they were old enough I'd take them to the Newport show, but that's a lot of hassle! I'll try to get a video of them hopping around, they are even cuter! The broken blue one is a buck!! I'm leaning towards the other 2 being does, but will check them until I'm sure

Smarty pants. LOL.... "the one on my porch" as in the oppossum on my porch.... and yeah, you can have it.

Smarty pants? Moi?

I have plenty of possums, thank you very much. I get to go to sleep to the sound of a hiss-off between a possum and Whiskers (the cat that won't go away) almost nightly.

I just couldn't resist.

Okay guys dumb Fall raising chicks question: My babies are almost 7 weeks old (I think). They have been in the big coop all week & I have not had the heat light on any. They are all sleeping in one nest box. I am concerned about next week when the temps drop. Will they need the light at night? They have quite a few feathers but are not completely feathered out yet. I have made it this far with them & do not want to screw it up. This Fall chick thing is new to me. Thanks

BTW the black one I am kinda undecided on as to sex is my buddy. If i go out to the pen it will come up to me. It will calmly perch on my lap while I pet it or look through the feathers to see how they are coming in. So if it turns out to be a roo he is going to stay unless he gets really mean. LOL

Last time I hatched in the fall, I bought a thermocube from Amazon. It's basically a three hole plug-in you plug into the wall (or extension cord in my case) and it only relays the power if the temperature in the coop drooped below freezing. Once the temp comes back up it switches back off.

I had their waterer in a heated dog bowl and a heat lamp hung up pretty high plugged into that thing. That was the winter it was below freezing for weeks and weeks and they did great. I think they sell them set at different temperatures, so you could pick where you think would be best. I love that thing.

I've never had a mean orp, so you might be stuck with your little guy. I think they're just too heavy to put up much of a fuss about anything.

Ok guys,

We have so many new members that I can not keep up with real names.
We seem to be using them so much that I am staying confused.
And I know the newer members are also lost and saying WHO are they talking about.

I just changed my signature line and placed my real name first.

I personally would like to see ALL do this.
It would make it a lot easier to know who is saying what to who.

This is just my dumb opinion as a solution to my lousy memory.

ETA#2: Angie, sorry, I'm trying to learn names...

So its been a few days now with trying to use real names in the signature bar.
I like it when I am able to say Rodney posted this or Amy posted that.
At least people do not look at me like I am TOTALLY crazy (just a little off my rocker).
