Here are Kiawah and Priscilla. It must have been cold that day otherwise she would have been outside in "her" garden. Her leg was broken when she about 4 months old and she wore a plaster cast for a month which had to be kept dry. She always had a bad limp after the leg healed that was worse in cold or damp weather. She decided she preferred living in the house at night (or in bad weather) and that's how these 2 became the best of friends.

Priscilla again. Look at the far right where the throw is and you can see her freshly laid egg.

My dogs are fine with chickens and ducks, just not rabbits. My chow mix will chase down a chicken from across the yard if she thinks its a rabbit.....when she gets close enough to tell otherwise, she stops and goes the opposite direction. The chicken just stands there as they are used to the dogs.

I have 2 shepherd mixes, a chow mix and a toy poodle. LOL.

c'mon this broken boston needs someone who can afford to have him fixed up the right way. I dont want to turn him over to a rescue but i might not have a choice. If he needs back surgery, there is no way on this green earth that i can have it done for him. Hey i've been waiting on my back to be fixed since i was 12, if i fixed a dogs back before my own i'd need to really put myself in a HUGE time out

Yes, I'm going to have to send you supernanny...for yourself!

Ha, ha, ha:lol:

when i had "clucky" loose in the house with her messed up leg, the goat and dog would sniff and look at it funny, and dog would roll it towards me, and the hen liked to lay her eggs around or against the goat, whether they were outside in doghouse with dog, oe all on the couch, and to this day i dont know how the goat never accidentlly broke an eg, or why dog never ate (as he loves raw eggs with shells(. lstely with the downsize (the sick hurt duckling i traded down for died today.. *sadness*), its been pretty slow and easy, though think heat fried the brain of my baby gudgie, as it doesnt hardly lift its head, and just lays on back or side, twitching if i dont right it into the corner to stop it from flopping its boy around. course the heat has been making me sick also.

Good morning everyone, we had a sad day here on the farm yesterday. Had an American shorthorn cow loose her baby yesterday, we were so looking forward to our first shorthorn baby. She was in labor and just could not seem to have the baby, my husband went and got our Mennonite neighbor to help him pull the calf, they just could not get her out so we called the vet, Dr. Moss out of Riceville is an excellent large animal vet, he had plans for the evening but but them off and came right out (Bless him!) the calves little neck was so bent back she just would not come out, he did finally manage to remove the calf but she was already dead. She was solid red and a female, she was not a large calf but the twisted neck was the problem. Momma cow grieved for a while but she is doing fine now. I've also got an old Tom turkey that cannot walk anymore and I am going to have to put him down here in a minute, I dread that, I have had him for at least 8 years, he had sired many young poults for me and is such a friendly old bird, but I cannot let him suffer, was going to do it yesterday but with the sadness of the calf I put it off till today. Well time to go outside, hopefully after this is over today will be a better day. I quess it's just part of living on a farm and having animals, it happens at times but it is still so sad.
