OK....have been working on trying to organize a few things to have the Chick-A-Palossa this fall. I use to have a greenhouse/landscaping business and we have started cleaning up that area where it was. It has been a dumping place for equipment...etc that did not have a place to go. The heat is really going to slow it down a bit but I hope having 3 months should give ample time to get it ready. This is something I would like to sponsor for our group each year. We can invite the public and members can set up booths to sell their things. I use to coordinate things for a few companies..school..etc and really enjoy doing it and it gave me some really good resources. I have thought about talking to everyone about our actually having "our" group with memberships if everyone would like that.
So...here are some things I have thought about as activities that would be fun.
Members booths with chickens, rabbits and other things like crafts to sell.
2 food vendors ( could even be members who would want to do this)
Drawings
Show for children only. I am sure we could get Ruth from the Newport show to come and judge for us or someone she may know.
A chicken costume show.
Maybe a couple people doing demonstrations or information booths to educate people
A dunking booth for Bario and AJ to do.
We could talk to
TSC and other farm businesses for things to donate for the drawings and contest.
I have already talked to Leepers in Jefferson City about setting up a booth..
We would need to advertise in order to get the public to come (and shop!) so it is a possibility of charging a small fee for the booths to pay for these (and port-a-potty) and I think with our group here we can find some other sources to get the word out. Just got to get a set date.
If we set a date in September the weather should be cool enough and give plenty of time to get things ready. I am open to any help you guys can give.
So....I think we can have a pretty neat little thing if this works out. I live right next to the I81 and it is a very easy location to find. The end of my road is at exit 4 so there is a lot of traffic and can put signage there. There is plenty of space for parking as well. It is all fenced in so if members wanted to set up some of their things ahead of time it should be safe. I also have a 24x24 metal building on it we can use...if I get it all cleaned out! I want this to be something that is fun and benefits our people here
So....how bout some feedback??
@AJ....neat sign....I kinda like the chicken crossing the road thing Stang mentioned too. The signs would be great to direct us. I would suggest putting them on tripods which makes it easy to just set up and pick up when you are finished.
