OK...someone has got to know how to trap a weasel.
I went out this morning and found my white SG silkie pair dead. It made me physically sick.

I am so over this. It has cost me a lot of money and I have tried everything to catch it. They where in a very heavy duty wired cage squares being 2x3. Both their heads where pulled through the bottom part. This had happened when I had a juveniles in it.I actually saw it pull it through. It was under the cage and I had a stick ramming it under it but it still pulled it through and underneath..I just caught a glimpse of it run off. So...I figured adult chickens would be fine. Well...NO The only way it could do it was to get in the cage, they where on a roost so it had to grab them off of that then drag them over to pull them through the cage BUT...they where adults and could not get them out. It slit the roos throat and drank the blood which is typical of weasels..then it did the same to the hen BUT for some reason she was still alive and only had a bite to the back side of her head. I cleaned her up and brought her in. I can't decide if she will make it or not but that was the only 2 whites I had and where my SQ pair.
I had a woman tell me her neighbor takes a PVC pipe and puts the end in the ground at an angle them drops bait down in it. When they go in they are not able to back out. I have chickens livers in it so I am praying I get it tonight. I would have never thought with all the precautions I take something would still actually be able to get my babies. Stinks!!

Thank you. I think I have most of the first aid stuff. I will try to find the page again. I have read bairo's page and found it very helpful. I am just looking for others opinions and experiences with any of the things on the list.

So sorry to hear about your loss! I hope that the PVC pipe works out! Then you can make a little coat out of him for your injured one!

I would say it was a mink.

If you live near a creek or a river, mink are going to travel through sooner or later.

The best place to get him is where he coming on your property with a conabear kill trap.

Find where he is coming throught the fence and set it there or where he is coming up the creek bank.

Yes...it certainly is...that is the only thing that kills this way. I'm pretty certain it is staying in between the 2 floors of our shed which is the hen house. When we built the shed several years later had a leak that rotted a part of the floor. so...instead of tearing it up we just put another down 4 inches or so above it. That left a void with openings where the studs where. I lost over 9 young chicks and juveniles before I realize how it was getting in. It would not come in and get just one...one night it had 3. The reason I know how it was getting in because one night it got 2 and they where to big to go down into the void. Just their heads where pulled in. So I filled the areas at the studs with large rocks and put walls up. That took care of that.
When it got the one chick out of this cage I though the chick had it's head hung but it was pulling it through the bottom part of the cage. I was ramming a stick under trying to hit it. I saw it run through the fence out of the corner of my eye. I never dreamed when i put adults in it would get them. I am just sick and ready to just get rid of all of them.
We put the PVC pipe out last night and baited with liver and blood. I felt sure since he got 2 meals there he would try again. You angle the pipe down in the ground and when they go in they can't back out because it is slick. Didn't get it so I will keep trying. We have a large pond and I don't have a clue where he would be coming in from.
I am calling out local wildlife officer to see if he will come by. Where would I get the trap you are talking about. These 2 SG silkies where SQ and costly. In all it has gotten around 15 juveniles and now 2 adults. I don't know whether to scream or cry.

I told DH we have got to get another dog....we never had any problems when Jake was alive..even when he was 18 nothing came around. I miss him so much.
Yep.....when I finally catch it....and I am stubborn enough to....I am skinning and tanning the hide..old style. After I torture it.

I have a trap for weasel/mink sized vermin, I bought it as a double trap because comes with raccoon sized trap too. It was only $20 for both and the wire is covered in green covering so wire won't rust. If you were closer I'd let you borrow it.

Hey everyone...I may have a Columbian Wyandotte rooster that needs a home. I think one of my "pullets" is a he, and I can't have roosters where I live. My flock is 11 weeks old. I'm going to ride it out a bit and see what happens, but if Gertie crows, do any of my local East TNers need a pretty roo? I hate it...I only have 3 chickens anyway, and this will bring me down to just 2! Plus he/she is a pretty sweet chicken, comes when I call, eats from my and my kids' hands, completely not aggressive (yet). We got them at 1 day old and have handled them all a lot.

It is official, I am turning off the incubator! I washed it and put it away! Just finished hatching 16 Swedish Flower Hens, 8 of them are for sale. PM me if you are interested. I also have 3 or 4 lovely Blue Wheaten Ameraucana boys that I hatched from Tennesseeckn's eggs. Out of 5 chicks I think I only have one girl.

They are six weeks old, supper sweet and adorable (and free to a BYC home.) I also have a "Marsbar" Rooster (my made up name for him not a real breed). He is a mix between a Cream Legbar and and Marans, so he will have the olive egg laying gene. He would be fun to add to a olive egger project. I think he could maybe used to develop and auto-sexing Olive egger.... Maybe?? He was the only chick to hatch out of $80 worth of eggs so I was saving him, but the time has come that he find a new home.
