OK...someone has got to know how to trap a weasel.
I went out this morning and found my white SG silkie pair dead. It made me physically sick.
I am so over this. It has cost me a lot of money and I have tried everything to catch it. They where in a very heavy duty wired cage squares being 2x3. Both their heads where pulled through the bottom part. This had happened when I had a juveniles in it.I actually saw it pull it through. It was under the cage and I had a stick ramming it under it but it still pulled it through and underneath..I just caught a glimpse of it run off. So...I figured adult chickens would be fine. Well...NO The only way it could do it was to get in the cage, they where on a roost so it had to grab them off of that then drag them over to pull them through the cage BUT...they where adults and could not get them out. It slit the roos throat and drank the blood which is typical of weasels..then it did the same to the hen BUT for some reason she was still alive and only had a bite to the back side of her head. I cleaned her up and brought her in. I can't decide if she will make it or not but that was the only 2 whites I had and where my SQ pair.
I had a woman tell me her neighbor takes a PVC pipe and puts the end in the ground at an angle them drops bait down in it. When they go in they are not able to back out. I have chickens livers in it so I am praying I get it tonight. I would have never thought with all the precautions I take something would still actually be able to get my babies. Stinks!!
