Wow! I won something! I am so excited! Sorry I have been MIA.... My husband and I celebrated our 12th anniversary on Oct. 4th (and it was my birthday too.) So that is why I picked that date! I guess it was my luck date! I also found out yesterday that one of my chick photos was chosen for the BYC calendar. I have been out of town for fun and work. I had 700+ post to read! Some of you know I have a little photography business here in Gatlinburg.... well I swapped out photos for lodging with a bed and breakfast in VT. Here are a few photos of from my trip (I hope you don't mind me sharing non chicken photos.) We flew into Boston, went to the Waitsville, VT, then drove through New Hampshire to Portland Maine. I got to try fresh lobster.... and realized I don't like it... LOL... just give me Red Lobster any day. Vermont is amazing! So many restaurants only service locally grown food (within a 100 miles). The B&B got fresh eggs from the farmer down the road and everyone seemed to have chickens! But after all of that, I feels pretty amazing to be home! I missed my kids and chickens!





On the chicken side of things I just set some Cream Legbar eggs... this is my third time trying to hatch this breed wish me luck!

Well its a sad day around here. I had my pair of peafowl in a 10x10 kennel since April. Well sometime last night something must have scared the female so bad she evidently got out. ( I can see where something tried to chew through the chainlink) and was dead in the front yard. Geez just when you think they are safe.

Yes I am back! So I need some help.... It seems that since winter is just around the corner, that a family of rats have moved in under my chicken coop. Is there a non-cat method of rat removal that you all would recommend? I am about to order the Rat Zapper Ultra off Amazon, but $50 seems like a lot of money. of coarse who know how much I would save on feed....

Welcome back Genelda. Those pics are beautiful, congrats on your anniversary.
I get a little field mouse or two this time of year as well. I think other times of the year the eastern king snakes we get around here take care of them, but I finally had to resort to poison under the shed and in the little divided off area where I keep the feed. I pull it out in February well before the snakes return so I don't poison them as well.

The King's never seem to bother the chickens at all. Back in the spring one did get into the run for the first time...but I think he was just chasing a mouse instead of going after the chickens.

I have to be careful what I say outloud - I read your post to Tommy over the phone about BOSS. He came home with some. I have no idea what to do with it. I don't own a coffee grounder.

And I have only lived in this area about a year and a half. I'm not too cool with the mention of Eastern King Snake!!!!! WHAT?????? If I ever open my coop and found a snake, I would probably shoot every chicken we own trying to kill that snake.
