you'll be interested in a couple bonus eggs I got too that are hatching along with the rocks.
A Harry Shaffer lav ameraucana roo over white leghorns for F1 and bred back to either dad or uncle for F2 which are the eggs I have. The person started to breed for muffs and tufts both in a prolific large blue egg layer.

pics tomorrow evening...I have some late pips on the eggs still.

yep.. true with most blues I am understanding. I'm still trying to keep the genes straight. Most people say blue is a recessive gene? It is actually what they call an incomplete dominant ( I just learned that one). With barred rocks the black is APA color, but splash is not of course. If I'm not mistaken though a black rooster over splash hens will give me 100% blue. My problem with this is the eggs I got are already a few generations in. So if I cant get at least non related splash or any more blues from somewhere, then I should only go another few generations so I don't actually screw the breed up. So instead of searching for blues, I will search for anyone that has a splash pop out of their barred's.

I was thinking black x splash = 100% blue and splash x blue = 50/50 blue and splash. I ran across this somewhere can't remember. I think I was told in order to keep your blue coloring quality a splash would help. Is this true?

Yes, and splash to splash will give you all colors, black, blue and splash... but can't remember the % but think it's 25, 25, 50 respectively.

Thank goodness I got something right. I am confused because I thought splash x splash= 100% splash and blue x blue= 50% blue, 25% splash & 25% black. Also this F1, F2 etc. is beyond me.

Fired up the bator! I've bought a digital temp/humidity reader, and tested it in my brinsea, temp is correct... humidity low... may fill it up here tomorrow to see how much it takes to keep at 40ish%

I'm with you on the F2, F3 thing. I know that it means number of generations, but I don't know when you start counting. Are the parents the F1 or the first round of chicks?
