I always skin mine...just much easier and we don't usually eat the skin unless I am making stock. It is pretty easy after 3 or 4
Maybe with practice it would be easier. I didn't like fighting feathers. And Sulmtalers are feathery!!! OMG!

I'm also interested!sorry to hear about you loosing your blue male, that stinks! Keep me in mind about the cream legbars when they start laying. I am becoming overrun with SFH's! Getting ready to sell a few hens ( I have 19 hens!!)
He looks very nice and I think the name fits him. On trimming the feathers on his legs....and this is just my opinion. I wouldn't because he is growing out new feathers and trimming the present feathers is going to make them look uneven again. They are going to have some feather breakage...especially roos from breeding. But...he is going to look much better if you leave the feathers and let the new ones grow on in....it doesn't take long. By spring when they are full he will be gorgeous.
Terri, we named him Duke. I thought it was cute since his girlfriend was Daisy. Anyways, today he had his shampoo and blowdry. I think at one point I heard him mutter "you are not my friend."
Question: can the feathers around his feet/legs be trimmed? I ask this for him, Daisy and my two Brahmas. If they can, how do I do it?
I have plenty of containers I can throw in the car. My appointment is at 1PM...I know you are not out until after 4 so I can go see my son since he does not have classes tomorrow. Where would you like to meet?Sounds good. What time are you coming through? Have you got some bins to put it in or you wanna just bring me my buckets back? They're the smaller galvanized ones.
I must've been nesting today. I got up at 8 am and went to work feeding and watering. I had to get the hutch ready for the new baby does. I took photos. Then I took real photos. I started rearranging furniture, stripped beds and removed paintings from the wall. I made a mess. We had leftover pizza. I finally got done, showered and ate around 9 pm. I would like to blame the photo taking on me being so tired, but I do stupid stuff all the time. Sometime I'll have to tell you about the time at work when I thought there was baby wipes on the back of the toliet. Everyone I works with know that I graduated at the top of my class, but I have NO common sense. NONE. It gets embarassing.I have plenty of containers I can throw in the car. Itsthelaw.....Last month I was so excited to get to go to the Hatfield family cemetery in WV and see Devil Ansen's grave along with his family. After an hour and a half I figured I had them all taken...checked the camera and had no chip in it. It only took me 45 minutes the second time. After climbing back down the mountain and getting back to camp...I did have a drink!![]()
Opossum??Ok, what will kill a chicken and eat out all of the insides and leave the head. I came home tonight and went and checked and I had 1 Pullet this way. Then in the next run over I had one that was dead in the door of the coop and not eaten at all. I set a trap with the dead chicken to try and catch it tonight. This has got to be the most frustrating part of owning chickens. Both of my runs are also covered. I know it wasn't a dog or anything like that.
possum or coon . Weasels drink the blood only...coons east most of it or carry it off somewhere to dine in comfort..rats will eat the insides only too. It is very frustrating..believe me I know from the same experience.Ok, what will kill a chicken and eat out all of the insides and leave the head. Rats, that is awful. I didn't even think about that. What about a skunk? Are there anythings out there I can get to deter predators. There is one place I could think of that they may have gotten in. I am going to fix that tonight.possum or coon . Weasels drink the blood only...coons east most of it or carry it off somewhere to dine in comfort..rats will eat the insides only too.
