Eastern Washington

We know the sex, but we're keeping it to ourselves until the baby is here.

oh that's fun!

oh that's fun!

It's causing some grief for my husband, his coworkers are fine when they think that we don't know the sex, but as soon as they find out that he knows but is keeping it secret, all he gets is "Oh, come on! You have to tell!" Five seconds earlier, they were fine....

I am so happy to find this thread! I grew up in Montana, my hubby grew up in Dayton, and after many years the military brought us back to WA at Ft. Lewis. We jumped on a chance to buy some land outside of Dixie (just E of Walla Walla) a couple years ago, and now we are building on it this year with plans to move there this fall. After a couple years of growing moss/mold I CAN'T WAIT to move back to a climate and community more like what I grew up with. Sigh.

I currently have 4 1 year-old Hens, ( RIR, silver-laced Wyandotte, coronation Sussex, welsummer), and 4 5- week chicks (a partridge/barred Cochin ...pretty sure he is a roo, a gold-laced Wyandotte, a blue-lace red Wyandotte, and a cuckoo marans). I also just got a mini incubator and have 3 light Sussex and 3 lavender Orpington eggs coming next week. I am seriously enjoying my girls, and am considering focusing on a variety after we move and doing a little breeding, but I have no idea how to get started selling chicks or hatching eggs, so we will see!

At any rate, hope you don't mind my lurking until I am officially an E Washingtonian!
Hi NinetreesMom, I'm one of those from the East OR side. I am just in love with the lavender Orp color. You have to post some pics. maybe next yr I can have some. I got 4 new chicks this yr.
I understand your mold moss issues too, I can visit the wet side of OR or WA but I can't wait to get home so I can get a clean clear breath of fresh Air!
DH and I go to Walla Walla all the time to DR.s the best around here. Most of the chicken's I see around there seem to be on CL or the Giant Nickle adds.
Welcome and hope you are here soon!

Snow, snow, snow, I'm so sick of it.

Am I the only one who got any? I'll bet even chickengarden didn't get snowed on.
So sorry, Vicki. I was thinking of you when I saw a DOT pic of Snoqualmie Pass. We got a few flakes and there's frost right now but no snow. Remember, though, snow is the best way to water stuff. It slowly seeps into the ground as it melts...

Welcome to Ninetreesmom. I moved away from my hometown climate when I was 11 and then back again when I was 22. I never could shake the love I had for the hot, dry summers (and everything else about it). I think North Central Washington State is the BEST place on earth!

Chae, that's fun to have a surprise. My hubby had to convince me to find out the sex before we had our first baby.

Carrie, or whoever is the one putting in wood floors, that's so awesome. We are also planning to do that but have to save up for them first. We as a family have always hated carpet. It seriously harbors the grossest stuff! With kids and pets it just did not have any merits for us. I'd waaaaay rather have area rugs that I could haul outside and hose off if necessary.

Well, hope everyone has a great Tuesday. It's laundry day for me. I have to get those machines running within the hour and then keep them going back to back or my laundry won't get done before my bedtime!

PS Vicki, it's gonna warm up again soon...hang on girl!

Thanks for the welcome RustyHen. I can't wait to move, but since we don't have a house yet, I guess I have to :D. Every time we come out to our farm it really does feel like a breath of fresh air! I have a dear friend that lives in Burns, so I will likely be spending my own share of time in E OR. I know what you mean about the chickens! I did a tour of the local (WW) feed stores and was shocked at how dismal the chick selection was. Granted it was a one-time look, so maybe I was there on a bad day, but we stopped at 3 different places, including PGG in Milton-Freewater. I plan on breeding my own farmyard chicks, so definitely look me up next year! If one of my lav orps turns out to be a roo I might just keep him, although I am actually hoping for a light Sussex roo.! At any rate I will likely have at least some lav orp mixes next spring!
