Watch out! I didn't even have goats on my mind and now I have 2. We will be building a shelter this weekend. Right now they are in my "barn" which is an old leaky lean to at the back of my garage.
I'm worried goat math might strike like chicken math did to me last year! I was going to get 3 or 4 chickens and I had 16 at one point.

Boy, isn't that the truth?! My DH eventually just started saying "whatever" when I talk of the next creature I want. Dangerous!!!

I keep telling myself that I need to get rid of more chickens before getting anything else. We have 3 mallards waiting for us at a friends house as well at 2 turkeys at another buddy's house. We just need to build something for them to live in. I dont want the ducks in with the chickens until I get a bigger chicken coop. And the turkey's need a space of their own. And once I get those turkeys and ducks, no more animals!!!! I just started a new job (I have been self employed for the last 4 years) and I already have 4 horses, 30 chickens, a dog, and soon a huge veggie garden plus working outside the home now so NO MORE ANIMALS!!!

Good luck keeping your numbers down, haha!! I ended up with an extra rooster a couple days ago! DD checked on the birds while closing them up and noticed a new bird on the roost! I was pretty sure I knew where he came from and tried putting him back the next day (people werent home) and he kept coming back and pacing our run. I let him hang out but then DD noticed my Japenese Bantam roo was bloody from having a chunk taken off his comb. I almost put the new boy down, but decided to put him in the dog kennel overnight. I was finally able to ask the people I figured he came from about him and they claimed him, thank goodness!

Quote: Well that's good he was claimed. Our new neighbors across from our pasture have chickens and our other neighbors with the cattle next to us have shot a couple of them because the new people refuse to at least make an effort to keep them on their own property. I don't have to worry about my chickens heading down to the cattle neighbors because they like us...lol. And I at least make an effort to keep my chickens at home by building that coop last November and chasing my chickens back home when I see them down there... haha! I was suppose to rehome most of my chickens 2 weekends ago but my Sweetheart hasnt seen or talked to the co workers thats wanting them so I still have them all and they are all getting huge! Hopefully I can get them rehomed this weekend? I work all week but should have the weekend off

I NEED HELP! As in MENTAL help!! Lately, I've been obsessed with researching other species of farm animals. Goats are still definately on the list, but now ducks and geese are being planned for!!! It would be ideal if I could figure out how to make them all mesh and work together so that their existance here will improve our land and help us to be more sufficient rather than a financial and physical burden. Research, research, research!!!!! Geese were one animal my hubby really doesn't want and I was skeptical about....until I read more about them. It sounds like they are quite economical and not usually as aggressive as their reputation suggests!

Hi! I am in Priest River, Idaho about 20 miles from Newport, Washington. I currently have only 5 ladies and 2 roosters, but more are coming the first week of April! 100 fry-pan specials and 6 EE chicks.
