Eastern Washington

Hi! I'm from the eastern slopes of the cascades, and we got snow this morning. Winter is still hangin' in there. Don't mean to just jump in, but I can't keep up with the Washingtonian thread from the west side, and I'm still looking for a place where I might fit in. So what do you think? Is it o.k. if I hang out here with you guys?

I'm sort of in the sticks, just off I-90, about 25 or 30 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass. Winter rules supreme here, or at least the snow does. I guess it doesn't really get that cold, just cold enough for more snow. I'm still close enough to the "other side" that I can go that direction when I need a change of pace. I also plan to go to Monroe on the 16th. for the poultry show. I've never been to one.
Thanks for the welcome!!!

Hi there! Welcome!

We had a sudden hail storm over here, and my girls were huddled against the fence at the far side of the yard, silly birds! I herded them back toward their coop and they ducked under their lean-to shelter.
Hey, thanks for the welcome! I think I've seen some of your posts on the Washingtonian Peeps thread. That one makes me dizzy! By the time I've caught up with it, my butt hurts from this chair, so I rarely add anything to it.

Vickis,

I'm going to drive right by your place today on my way from Yakima to Bellevue. How's the road look? :)

DW and I will be attending the Monroe event on Saturday. We'll drive over Friday and spend a night in a hotel. Should be a good time and there will be LOTS of BYCers to meet. Several of the folks from the other thread are going, some will show their birds. I can't wait!

I just skim that other thread. I think all the regular posters do that. I skim through looking for my name in case someone has directed a comment or question at me.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Dave

Hi Dave!
The road is bare and wet here. Might be a bit of slush on the pass, but no big deal. Supposed to get sunny this afternoon, and then 2 beautiful days. I'm so excited! Have a safe trip to the other side.

Hello EW's I lurk a lot on WPeeps but it can go too fast. I hope It's alright with you if I jump in here once and a while, I'm located just south of Tri-cities near Hermiston OR. We Dr. in Richland so I'm over there quite often. It's so hard to find any purbreed chickens over here. I have ordered from east coast but the Prices are terrible and just for a chance that they might hatch, let a lone what gender they might be. sorry for the rant, my hens are 2yrs now so I need to start to find replacements for them.

Here is our flock out doing chicken things today, our chi's think they are chicks too.

Now for my problem.. what color to paint the coops this spring? I started on the upper coop last yr. but now don't like the colors exactly. DH over builds every thing, the nest box got so heavy we had to put a weight on it so I can raise it up.

Any sugestions? we are refencing the lower coop this spring and adding windows too.

We were at the lake when it rolled in, had no idea it would get so crazy! We had a bit of a walk back to the car & the hail started as soon as we got there. And we poked a dead frog. It was quite an adventure!

When we got back the girls were hanging out in the lumber side of the shed & I was happy to see that the area around the new bunny hutches was completely hail-free. It was awesome!

RustyHen, I like your coop setup! Does the color scheme of your house or other structures need to be considered? If it were me, I think I would want yellow trim on the upper one (the main color is good, I wouldn't bother changing it) & do a dark red on the lower one since it looks like a barn. But there are so many possibilities (which I'm sure is why you're asking!)

btw..if anyone is in the market, I was at Walmart (Wellesley st, Spokane) & they have wood stains (water, UV protection) in the clearance aisle, $6/gal marked down from $28! Maybe other locations do too? I've got a few projects in mind & grabbed a 5g bucket...I am way too excited about it haha.
