Here is the start of my tractor. It's a slightly larger version of the JRossetti tractor

I'm using 2x2's and 2x3's and the lightest wood I can... but the weight is growing!
Still have all the sides, roof and wire to put on.
Gonna need some wheels... and a 4-wheeler! Wonder if the wife will buy that "need". haha

Here is a couple chick in brooder shots.

Such cute chickies!

I was out at Aslin-Finch today to get my chick starter and bedding (reminder to anyone who gets their e-mailed coupons - the Pine bedding for $6.97 ends 3/15). I have now learned that a "3.6 cubic foot" block of pine shavings weighs between 50 & 75 lbs! Also, it fills a 45-gallon trash can without the packaging being opened and "uncompressed"! She told me it'd fill a trash can, I thought she meant once it was opened! I also bought a 5 lb. bag of Manna Pro Medicated Chick Starter ($6), I'm not sure how much 3 little chicks will eat, but figure that'll get me at least a week (hopefully longer though) until I can decide if they'll eat a 25 lb sack before it goes "bad". Also, I'll have to go to the Valley store for larger bags of starter...unless I want "store brand".

So, I added a trip to Wally World to get a trash can after I saw the size of the bag...I was thinking it would be similar in size to what I bought my Gerbil as a kid (LOL!) not 3 times the size of a bag of dog food! While I was there, I picked up a thing of Hand Sanitzer (since my brooder is downstairs and the washrooms are all up stairs), I like it though, it's "Advanced Protection", which translates to "smells good & is a foam instead of that nasty gel stuff", lol. But, I think it was well worth the $3 I spent on it, even if I only use it. I will have a 5 year old visitor in April and my 7 year old nephew will be here for 3 weeks in June/July.

Nah....I'm ready for him to go, he is getting a wee bit bossy in the brooder. You can come and get him and plump him up to your exact 'plump' specifications. Seriously.....

Want him?

How old are your chicks? You sure it's a roo? Mine are only 2 weeks old and I can't tell for sure boy or girl yet. I have a few guesses though.
My brooder is full currently. I'm working on finishing my coop at which time I'll have more room and could take your roo.

I Just picked up two more pullet chicks from Big R this past weekend. I picked the oldest looking ones I could find so they'd be closer to my chick's age. I should definitely have enough ladies now! Haha... chicken math!

Cheers!

For any Spokane Co. residents who hang out on this thread, please take a moment to e-mail our county commissioners expressing your support for allowing chickens in residential areas of unincorporated Spokane County. The City of Spokane Valley is hopefully planning to approve loosened restrictions on chicken keeping in the city limits tomorrow at their meeting. Us folks outside the city limits would love to have "legal" chickens too. A chicken advocacy group met with the commissioners recently and felt that they were open to making some changes in the zoning restrictions, but they need to feel like there is broad support for such a change.

Spokane county commissioners are Todd Mielke, Mark Richard, and Al French:

the wise folks at BYC suggested he was a roo when I inquired...and the older he gets I'm sure they are right.

He's abut 6 weeks I'm guessing. Mostly feathers, just some fluff on his neck.

I'm having a hard time letting go of him though....but it looks as though you don't have room for him right now anyhow. I'll be in touch when it's time for him to go.....

Howdy neighbors!
I was wondering if anyone around Spokane or Hayden or somewere in between, had Toulouse Geese, goslins or fertile eggs.
My uncle mentioned he would like a pair; I would like to give him some for his birthday.
I don't need fancy, pedageed or show quality. I would be super happy with plain ol healthy.
In other words, I am cheep! LOL!

My coop is a large 4ft wide x 9 1/2 ft long... (4 1/2 ft x 10 ft roof overhangs). It's BIG for a movable tractor. I'm going to have to rig wheels or a dolly or something when it comes time to move it around. I've just finished up the hardware cloth last night. Just have the run door to build, the pop door to cut, and the roof left to put on to finish it up. Next I need to build a small Salatin style tractor to raise some meaties in.

I'm sorry, but I don't have plans to build any more. Plus... mine aren't exactly "sell quality". They look good from 50 feet! haha.

Cheers!
