Eating Chicks?

The industry at large will never consider doing that because a normal rooster takes twice as long to mature as a hybrid broiler bird. Most breeds are not as meaty. The other issue is that broiler farms only profit 4 - 6 cents per pound. It is further up the chain that the price per pound profit is really made.

Now if they would donate the birds to be raised in community projects where people have a very low income .... maybe?

* Love the idea of having at least some of them being raised for community food use, K!! Probly get a load fired at you by the A-R folk, tho-- and wouldn't THAT be lame given what's happening to them already!!! Isn't 'capon' roasted roo??

Ah man...I -love- fried shrimp. Now I'm even more tempted to do this. We have the right seasoning and cocktail sauce...

Also, I love the idea of the community food. Props.

Check out your local pet store and talk to the reptile person. They would most likely would like chicks or know someone who would like the chicks. They would feed them to large lizards or snakes. I don't know how much you could sell them for.

ok - here's a stupid question from the uneducated... how to "cull" with scissors? sorry to be obtuse, just really wondering exactly what you do (and no, I have no plans to do this to any of my chicks - they're all fine enough).
