How much land would you need to grow the food you need without harming animals?
I've always wondered this... And then there's the other part of me that's more worried about the generations of genetics being lost with no more selective breeding...This is the big question and I'll take it a step further: What if the vegan movement were to succeed? As in everyone on earth becomes a vegetarian, the consumption of meat and animal products are made illegal and factory farming goes away. How exactly would we feed everyone without the abundance of animal manure? Sure there are vegan fertilizers but those are mostly made from plant meals that were most likely grown with manure. Or will everyone be required to keep "pets" for their droppings? How do we keep all of the animal species going now that domestication and selective breeding has all but made some helpless and the benefit of consumption and profit is no longer there? Or do we just let them go extinct? How do we keep deer and other wild game from overpopulating and starving when you can't kill them? Or will it just be ok to kill them and let the meat go to waste? I could go on and on about how this could never work.
Loved this! LolHuman beings are omnivores, you can't go against the nature of the beast, it is in our genes, our physiology. Binocular vision, opposable thumbs, Costco....but I digress. Too many people fall for the "organic" or "all vegetable" hype, thinking that someone who is an "expert" must be right. If you want an example of marketing and how it works, look no further than the ads on television for "all natural" cat food...contains everything that will eventually cause your cat to die of kidney failure....except animal protein, including all the beneficial enzymes and amino acids that cats, as well as humans need...never saw a cat stalk a carrot, or an ear of corn, or beets, or wheat. They are the ultimate carnivores, but the Madison Avenue executives will run advertisements insisting that Garfield wants nothing more than a good helping of soybeans...with a side order of dandelion greens. Many Vegans supplement their diet with over the counter vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and the previously mentioned necessary amino acids. Probably might want to look into how these are processed, and from where....I question whether or not you are getting your money's worth. I believe in live and let live, if you chose that path for yourself, whether it be for health reasons, or for ethical ones. all the power to you. My position is pretty simple...vegetables are what food eats.I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat cabbage...unless a nice piece of corned beef is also stewing in the crock pot, along with potatoes and carrots. And a nice Merlot to follow.
