I don't sell muscovy eggs or anything, ( though I probably should!), but I love the things and Have over 20. I can't believe someone, who obviously did NOT know what they were talking about, tried to do this. And I am glad Ebay listened and realized their mistake and are trying to make it right.

not to be mean or start a war. The federal government put them on the list not because they are indangered, but they are an evasive species. 1 person wrote that they couldn't survive a winter where they live. Muscovys can survive anywhere and we all know they multiply faster then rabbits. There are a few states that have a huge population of feral muscovys(with a law that they can be shot on site). The government was trying to create a law where they can only be owned by farms that raise them for meat. This comes about for the simple fact, and I am not saying anyone here would do it. Is people get overwhelmed with them and release them into ponds and rivers. They were cute as little ducklings at easter then they grew up and aren't cute anymore. there are more muscovys available as a domestic duck then any other duck.
Yes all muscovys can fly even the males, let them live on their own where they are not fattened up and they can fly really well. the only good thing is when the cross breed you get mules.

I fully understand that the government is kinda trying to take away our rights. That is what the government does they figure out what they can take away and then tax you. But it came about because to many people lacked common sense. The government is just trying to protect the naitive enviroment.

That said--what others do with them after I sell hatching eggs is their business...and beyond my control. Muscovies are considered an invasive species because they are pretty aggressive and when they cross-breed with other ducks, the resulting offspring are "mules" or sterile. Which would mean unless they stuck to their own kind--anything they produced could not & would not continue their genes in the wild...

It's just like the people down south with snakes & lizards they release into the wild that are now populating swamps and stuff...crap from Africa & South/Central American and Asia thrives & reproduces in the right climate....

I was reading something yesterday online, don't remember where but if I remeber correctly "properly marked" included being tatooed or having one of the back toes removed and I think there was something else. I think its crap personally. Wild muscovy fly so therefore can migrate. I live in Florida, grew up here. You used to see muscovy everywhere, now the ones near me are slowly disappearing. Now, there is only 1 that I see regularly I feel so bad for him all alone.

The thing is, at least in Pinellas county Florida, anyone can go out and do whatever they want to a muscovy because they are considered invasive nuisance animals. Meaning, unless you are deliberately cruel, you can go out and kill them whenever you want. The state sends people to nests and so as not to encourage mom to lay more eggs right away, shake the eggs vigorously to destroy embryos and put them back. Its very sad. Yes there big and slow and walk across the road regardless of traffic but I would LOVE to have some.

Sounds like they just take complaints at "face value" and don't do any factchecking. That's no way to run a business. If it's against the law then there's nothing to be done but they should actually make sure it's against the law before pulling folks listings! Some people are making a living through Ebay for goodness sake. I mean, not me... I'm not in any danger of actually making money from my spoiled rotten birds - LOL!

I was going to bid on those Muscovy eggs but have no where to put such beautiful Muscovy and I could not afford them. They are totally gorgeous!

It is an interesting thread. Years ago, I was offered some Muscovies and I turned them down, both because I thought they were "ugly" due to the carbuncles, and because I had concerns that a tropical bird wouldn't be OK in Michigan. Now I kind of kick myself.

I thought about ordering some eggs about a month ago from an Ebay auction, but decided it would be too late for 2011 because of the 36 day incubation period, which meant they'd be only 3 months old when our colder weather set in November.

But 2012 will be here before we know it.

I read, I believe it was on "Feathersite" website , some uninformed Gov. underling ,decided they were now an American a migratory bird and added them , because they have slowly made their way up form Central Ameirca and are in a couple Texas colonies. Hence so 23 year old probably decide the birdies need help and it would enhance his reputation. They also did not know that they were raised and shown here for a long time and also raised for meat. So they did a bit of revising, but not like they'd admit ignorance. Besides more regulations create more job security.... So now you must mark them much like you mark 'domestic mallards' same sort of rules apply....banding, removing toe, web punching. And they just destroyed alot of your market
