EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

The hormones i'm on are giving me hot flashes and migraines. :( Fun stuff. Last dose is today for Oral meds, then I start injectables for 3-4 days tomorrow, if everything looks good on the ultrasound.

My last egg that was due Friday (4-21) has not pipped. This would be 23 days. How long do I leave it in the incubator, or should I try pipping it and see if it's alive?

Leave it a couple more days. You'll know for sure if it's alive if it starts to stink. I've left them in a week past due date & they've not exploded.

Did anyone see Melissa Mcarthy deliver Sean Spicer's Easter and Passover message?
This one is for you @Akrnaf2

As I said, "if I could." Any mention of "you're supposed to be using a goat, but I've heard of using ducks" and I'd have angry people after me.

Candle it.

I'm certainly glad that once you took a year to find your stock that the exceeded your expectations. So you never did that canoe race again? There are certainly some interesting bridges over the Missouri River. The Waverly Bridge, between Lafayette and Carroll county was a mess before they finally replaced it. There was a huge bump going onto the bridge, and room enough to miss the bridge completely. I don't see any bear in Carroll County, which is where my mother lives.

...
I never did it again. Just not worth the wear and tear but 78 hours of constant paddling sure builds the guns. Part of me wants to go again because I'm sure I could cut my time way down with what I know now. However, it is by far the hardest thing I ever volunteered for. Strong head winds most of the way, 90sF during the day, blazing sun. Scariest time was passing a barge at night when 4' roller waves came at you. About half the boats drop out, some the first day. One guy was done after an hour. Most people have a ground crew to meet them with food and water at checkpoints. I carried everything with me. That included 28 gallons of water. I was able to give a couple gallons away at the last checkpoint to someone that was out. At some places on the river, like Washington, it was moving so fast they had to move the checkpoint or it would blow you right past the ramp. I was looking forward to getting out at that ramp because I had a big bug in my eye for about 4 miles. It was about 10pm and I wanted to go in somewhere with a mirror and light to get it out. No chance, the current carried me right by so the bug had to stay. The kayaker that won the singles kayak category lost all of his fingernails on the trip.

I've done a lot of multi day trips on most of the rivers in Southern MO and a couple in Northern AR.. 140 miles on the Buffalo/White in Arkansas, 70 miles on the upper Meramec, 100 miles on the Current, 70 miles on the Wachita/St. Francois, just under 50 miles on the North Fork, 40 miles on the Jacks Fork, 45 on the Eleven Point, 150 on the Gasconade, lots of shorter trips on most of the streams south of the Missouri river.

My next major canoe adventure will be going from the Atlantic to Pacific (or vice versa) over the Talamanca Mountains just northwest of the isthmus of Panama including La Amistad National Park. It's only about 80 miles as the crow flies but is probably 4 or 5 times that in river miles with lots of portages. I haven't picked a specific route yet or the rivers. I'd like to go close to the border for the shortest route, but some of the rivers there are right on the border and I wouldn't want to keep encountering Panamanian border agents. So I'll probably pick a route farther from the border even though it would be longer.. It is also the territory of the indigenous Bribri and Cabécar peoples. I would need to hire guides from both tribes. Otherwise I might not return.
I rented a house from the daughter of the
Cabécar tribal elder or chief. A guy that used to be a border patrolman said he could introduce me to the Bribri elders.

If it goes after my horse my husband will end up dead
I worked all day just got in, boards are back up, electric fencing run on the walls, unfortunately the fence isn't nearly as strong as I want it to be
he sounds cuddly

I was thinking a baby monitor in the building would alert you when it attacks so you wouldn't have to stay up all night every night.

what is with people ha ha ha
I guess they don't have trash pickup or landfills.

Hi guys.... Went fishing on the big lake today
What a great day of fishing. I guess they were hitting huh? What did you use for lures/bait?

Habs are floundering after a good 1st period. If they lose this game, they're out of the playoffs.
I'm sorry. I saw that this morning.
I can't believe the Predators swept the Blackhawks. Blues will be facing them but have home ice. Though the Blues seem to play better on the road.

Im trying to post but my service is breaking up due to a cap. Trying to buy a house. Waiting on ppraisal and underwriting so no guarentee.. Hoping to be back full time in may. Miss u guys
Are you using your phone? How is Sprint network coverage there? I have Boost mobile on the Sprint network. Unlimited talk, text, data for $43 a month.

The problem is that they call almost all day long!
I couldn't hear the roosters when I went to work because the dogs and Macaws drown them out. That was a noisy place. about 400 Macaws and about 40 dogs.

Stick a fork in the Habs, they're done.

Okay. After looking at him a while longer, I'm not too sure is the leg anymore. Maybe the "hip"? How would I fix that?
If it is up there, perhaps surgery from a vet. Probably not worth it. I was watching a vet show where they did similar surgery on a duck and fixed it.

I honestly think that many many many more chicks are killed by premature "assisted" hatching than are saved by assisting.

Eggs have been hatching without help for millions of years....
X2. Sometimes I'm tempted to assist but not until day 22 and then the success rate is poor. If they don't pop right out, they probably shouldn't.

Wow, just wow...Are humans even warm enough?

A little low for a good hatch rate. Several women have hatched in their bra if a broody dies but recently someone wanted to incubate start to finish in the bra.
This was last month.

Careful - you can get trichinosis (bear is the most common source in the US now that commercial pork in the US doesn't carry it).

I found this a very interesting read.

You just know he got swamped with calls. Heck, I'd sell him an egg for half what he's offering, and deliver it, even.
Too bad false advertising laws wouldn't come into play, or would they?
Hmmm......interesting thought. Wonder how long it would take me to get to Dothan & back; wouldn't want to miss the Orioles' game @ 1PM
Os are doing well aren't they.

Anyone got a clue what kind of comb this is?

It's like a straight comb with a pinched blade...

Looks like a carnation comb (king's comb).
If that is a Marans, side sprigs are a disqualification in Marans.
Only Penedesencas and Empordanesas are supposed to have carnation combs.
I won a comb contest with mine.
They call them carnation because they're supposed to open up resembling a flower from behind.

Thank you for the advice phage. Unfortunately I lost the gosling overnight. After looking inside to see what happened I realized it was malpositioned and the yolk was not fully absorbed. This was the only one that did not hatch out of all of them. Hopefully I don't have to go through it again

Well you still had a good hatch rate.
If you hatch again or often, it will happen many times. Not all animals thrive.

Quote: That they are. Not sure what to expect at this point. Pitching's much better than it's been since the Palmer/McGregor/Martinez days, but only time will tell if it's sustainable....I sure hope it is.
