Finally getting some size to my mutts and I’ve changed my mind on size of bird needed for the dinner table. Don’t really want to have chicken leftovers for several nights with just two of us. Will keep working with structure though. The Altsteriers are a smaller bird but I’m beginning to have second thoughts on them as well. They would make a good bird if they weren’t so darn skittish. The flighty part was why I got them in the first place but the neighborhood has changed in the past few years so free range is getting harder to do. They are not as hardy as the mutts either they do fine for a couple years then start dying off.

Story with a Moral behind it.
Just sold this pig about 20 mins ago..

The guys responded to the ad which stated $1.75 per/# hoof-hang weight.
DH tells them the swine weighs 100# estimated so he is charging for 100#. The guy didn't agree about the weight and told DH it was less than 75# and he would pay for that. After trying to explain the fact that muscle weighs more than fat and DH was tired of the haggling, He says I will rope em and tie em and weigh em on the scale, BUT you have to buy him if I have to do all that work..
Caught em, tied em & weighed it at 125#!
Moral of the story is.. Don't haggle with a pig farmer if you are buying your first pig.
They are getting one of my private stock feeders. They are about to eat the Nectar of the Gods.
It should take the edge off of having to pay extra..
