I like how my HRIR birds are free ranging and in attitude, but they are really slow to mature. They are not as friendly or productive as my ISA, but they are smarter, and my EE are productive and do well, but they are not friendly either though they are better than the ccl crosses. I have not found any type yet that is sized like my reds, but friendlier and more productive. Oh well,. I will just buy some other chicks this spring and see.Thanks.
Finally getting some size to my mutts and I’ve changed my mind on size of bird needed for the dinner table. Don’t really want to have chicken leftovers for several nights with just two of us. Will keep working with structure though. The Altsteriers are a smaller bird but I’m beginning to have second thoughts on them as well. They would make a good bird if they weren’t so darn skittish. The flighty part was why I got them in the first place but the neighborhood has changed in the past few years so free range is getting harder to do. They are not as hardy as the mutts either they do fine for a couple years then start dying off.
