EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hello,

A broody hen abandoned her clutch of eggs and I decided to continue hatching them for her. I have 12 in my bator at days 3-4, but when I candeled them, I saw no heartbeat and a mass stuck (I think) to the shell. I'm really worried. Is this normal?

The tempature is set to 37.7 Celsius and the humidity is normaly around 60%. the humidity fluctuated for a while, but I got it under control

Thanks in advance!

Humidity might be a bit high. 35 to 45% seems to work best for me.

don't expect to see veining until day 7. 3 to 4 is very early for development to be visible.

Happy Hatching!

I have had three escapes from the brooder. Always a Leghorn. Since I only have two LH, I’m guessing it’s the same one. Today I have no idea how it got around the screen on top.
Anyway, it’s time to switch cardboard boxes. Adding a stick perch turned into a log turned into SCORE!!! I have hidey hole logs!!

They can perch on top and play inside. :celebrate
Didn’t notice the bunny while on my phone.

hello, need to pass the time while my malpostioned silkies absorb their yolks and blood vessels recede.
also have a question on shipped egg air cells if i may? If they start to firm up around day 12 now, should i keep them propped upright or lay them flat?
thanks....

I leave mine upright the entire incubation.

Hey guys, my little chick is continuing to go downhill. I’m pretty sure I have to euthanize her, but I don’t know how.

It is shrieking so much and doesn’t seem to be able to eat.

Is there any way that is quick for it, but less traumatic for me?

Sorry to hear that. No I don’t know a less traumatic way. There may be something in the beginning of this forum that will help you. Otherwise maybe a friend might be able to do it for you. :hugs
