He's a good looking king of the bed. The ticking is what threw me off. She looked more like English Setter.

This being the busiest thread I figured I would ask on here...

I need ideas for breeding pens

I breed sizzles on a small scale and am redoing a 20x10 dog kennel tomorrow.(that is going to be roofed and sided)

I have 5 foot metal panels I usually use to separate my trios and also chicks.

Just looking to do something new and ergonomic to flow better.

Thanks

Hi!!! @moomoodiddy How are you???? How are you doing the roof? peaked, angle or rounded?
Some of the ideas below are amazing ideas for dog kennel breeding coops!!

Dog kennels make excellent coops if you have good panels. Most oif the panels sold today are not strong enough to keep a semi determined dog or other critters either in or out. You can reinforce them though and they are excellent for coops and runs. These pens are made entirely of dog kennels.

The next picture might be closer to what you want to do. I have about 20 of these that I set up temporarily to free range my growing chicks. Thet are 8'X12'X6' high and can be set up in about an hour.

001-5.jpg

I built mine from a 6X6 that my wife bought from our neighbor for $20. I had to modify one panel to make the gate. I used some scrap metal, chicken wire and lumber I had laying around from some other building projects. It houses 7 Black Tailed Buff Japanese bantams. They go up in it at night and free range during the day. The nest boxes are on the left behind the tan/whitedoor. The door for them to go in and out of is two pieces of GE lexan greenhouse panels. They slide in a J channel track and have a pin that goes through both panels and into a 2x4 stud in the middle of the big opening. The floor is covered with aluminum coil stock left over from building my house and the coop is supper easy to clean. Just slide the door open and rake out the poo into a dust pan then slide the doors to the other side and repeat.

OMG I am not hatching right now. I just ordered chicks for the Spring though. I am going to take a break from hatching and just give the hens chicks the next time they go broody.

I still have 5 of my chicks that hatched in September. One just started crowing so he needs to go. Two of them I am still not sure if they are male or female. And I have 2 for sure pullets.
@Honora What have you ordered?

Okey dokey, been browsing thru the notes and noticed one thing I can't find much of is stuff on cold weather egg shipping... And I got curious.

What's y'all's experiences been with cold weather egg shipping? I see suggestions to add heat packs, but how does a 8hr heat pack keep eggs safe for 48+ hours?

What's the coldest you've had eggs get yet still hatch?

These are in the notes:

Sweets, best thing to do is work with the seller and only ship when its not extremely cold enroute in that time frame. It can be done, Weather permitting and with double boxing and heat packs in the outer box. likewise in the summer with cold ice bricks

My son's on the way back to WI; pulled out about an hour ago, & I miss him already. Living so far apart, we usually only get to see him once a year, although he & his wife were here in July for our 50th anniversary. We never get to see them @ Christmas; haven't since they've been together for the last 15 years or so...DIL refuses to spend Christmas away from Mommy. Of course that means her husband has to spend Christmas away from his family every year, but I guess that doesn't count. No, she's not selfish. I'm not a little bitter, either...the H--- I ain't!

Sorry for the pity party; I just needed to vent a bit.

At least I got to spend four quality days with my only son, doing what we both love; hunting deer. We saw deer every day, sometimes several, including a couple of really nice bucks. Unfortunately, if they weren't on someone else's property, we couldn't get a clean shot at them. We started calling one of them the "Oh my God buck" That was my son's reaction the first time he got a look at him through the scope. We saw him twice. Rack's not real high, but extends well out past his ears. Never got a count of the number of points; at least 8, we're thinking. Over the 4 days, we passed on so many does we could've stacked them like cord wood; all yearlings but one we saw yesterday @ 20 yards. She was on top of us before we ever saw her, staring straight at the blind; I couldn't open the window or get the rifle in position before she spooked. All part of deer hunting.
