EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Goign to 4h, was VERY stressful on the birds. The turkey's handled it okay, they got lots of meal worms and it wasn't the most miserable experience for them.

The poor single little silkie, was very upset at being brought alone - in the future, I will always bring a "pair" of birds, even if we are only showing 1.

A got a ribbon for her silkie - just a junior participation blue ribbon that they give to all the clover-aged kids. (2-6)

Next year, she's too old for clovers, and her only choice will be meat chickens and she doesn't want to do meat chickens because seeing the ones there today made her feel bad. They couldn't even walk they were so fat. :(

they were a couple weeks past-butchering date, so it was taking it's toll on them.

We saw pigs, cows, sheep/goats.

I still want a pig. LOL watching some guy hit his pig with a whip was kind of funny.... I was sitting there wondering if pigs were so smart, why they hadn't taken the time to train the pig to heel and come with food. ^.^

Quote: I'm going to have to hold the panel down with pliers using a free screw that pulled out, and then drill up through the purlin into the roof panel. NOT the most elegant solution, but no way can I get up on top. It'll have to do...

Yay for the ribbon (participation or not). I can imagine it would be stressful for the birds - I never considered showing because of that (among other reasons). (Of course, I'm not in 4H.

It will work just fine. I hate attics

Don't get me started on the raccoon I found up there. I refuse to even consider describing the grossness... :sick

Guess I missed that by not reading back. Hate raccoons also. They tore up the heating vents here put a little insulation in front of the air flow under the house and had themselves quite a suite. That's when I first moved here. Really messed their party by closing off the access.

I just spent the last hour tearing up the house looking for my toe punch. I can't find it. ANYWHERE. I SWEAR I just saw it last week. Argh!!!!

Guess we'll play "Who's your daddy?" this hatch...
