I hear you on the Coconut oil, whoda thunk it would be so drying!! errr cleaning lol

I never knew that, my first batch had a lot of it in it, I have since taken that down big time. I added in almond oil, I really like it too.

One good thing about the coconut oil, a high superfat can make it less drying and if the batch is super cleansing and you have straight, dense but thin-strand hair like mine it works great for shampoo bars!

Don't eat veal of any kind. To my mind, butchering an animal that young is a gross waste of resources, when you can wait a year & get 3x as much meat.

What do you mean by "melting" exactly? Water in general will cause a hard bar of true soap to melt into essentially a snot-consistency slurry if allowed to sit due to the glycerin content. Detergent bars will melt for similar reasons, the chemical bonds of the detergent can't hold their solid shape for too long because water degrades the crystalline structure. Glycerin soaps will sweat glycerin in damp weather because of the moisture and will melt because of the glycerin content.

The best way to ensure a harder, less melt-y bar is a combination of allowing the water to cure out properly (for most recipes you'll see out there this takes about 3-4 weeks but with olive oil soap it takes up to a full year!) and using a combination of hard and soft fats. Also ALWAYS use a soap dish with adequate air flow for all kinds of soap/detergent bars! Never let them sit in direct streams of water or in standing water.

I have a deposit put down on the entire yield by a close by neighbor. I didn't count the amount but I am holding onto a 20 spot until after Turkey Day.

I said the Hallow Hatch was the last until spring until my neighbor friend asked for a bunch of newbies..

Yeah it sounds like the soapmaker didn't allow the bar to cure long enough then. If you have a dehydrator stick the bar in there for a week and try it again. Water content in the soap itself can cause that effect, or too high of a superfat.

ETA: I've had only one soap of mine still melt like that after doing everything else the "right" way and it turned out to be because the oils went rancid or something. I pulled the whole stock and remade everything and offered a replacement to anyone who got a bad batch.

I'll get photos one day this week. I think for part of the year, it will get great sun, but part of the year it will get less direct sun on those front panels.
