EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Does anyone have the link/picture for how to syringe feed without aspirating a chick? I thought I saw someone post it here a little while back...

@BantyChooks was it you that posted it?
Venymae, do you have any electrolytes/electrolytes with medication for poultry?

The first chick that had been pecked with the yolk busted all over him, I worked on him with non sterilized tools. I gave him the tiniest bit of medication. What I have is in granular form for mixing 300 litres of water at a time. I really just guessed at the few grains I mixed in water for him. I can't remember, it seems to me it was the penicillin/electrolyte combination. Perhaps your chick has some infection?

If you even have electrolytes, at least he'll be getting energy and vitamins.:fl

What a couple of days.. Geeze.. an anemic goat with hypothermia, catastrophic flooding, digging trenches, pumping out lakes that didn't exist last week and now the incubation batch that was due on Thanks Giving is majorly hatching today on Saturday... The people who prepaid this batch has a disconnected phone number. Since they are paid for, I am putting an ad on craigslist for free chicks. I don't need any more mouths right now.

Gosh that's tempting!

Found a crop feeding diagram. Gotta get some fluids into my little hernia chick. He's not eating/drinking. I've got a small syringe feeder used for supplement nursing that will be the right size. What would be best for getting hydration/enegry into this little guy? Juice? Water with a little sugar/salt? Plain water? Water with egg yolk mixed in? Has to be fluid, my tube is too thin otherwise.

I use this. Vitamins/electos
Concentrated. .87 gram yields one gallon of drinking water. Loaded with vitamins.. Lots of bang for the buck.. Actually 2.99 bucks..

I don't have any of the suggested products, and yes infection is possible. I do have tetracycline for fish...? I used raw yolk mixed with water for now, figured if they survive off yolk for three days it's probably got good stuff in it...
I have a lunch meeting today, but will try to swing by the farm store and look for the electrolytes/meds. Thank you for your help again everyone!:highfive: Hopefully this guy has a miraculous turn around, but I wouldn't bet money on it.
