EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Lots of variables go into whether they're early or late. Or survive at all.
I may have posted this before but here it is again and all hatchers should have a copy of it.

In answer to your earlier question about my ad for eggs. There was a little interest and 2 orders. One I can't fill because it is in the Philippines. I showed the guy all the requirements for shipping from the US to the Philippines. He said he bought some from the UK with no paperwork. I said I wasn't willing to circumvent the regulations.

Hey there! Good to see you again.
Yeah, I know some about the variables. I think the biggest problem is that an incubator that was holding steady between 99.5 and 100 for several days empty suddenly started jumping all over the place when a dozen eggs were introduced. Nothing to be done at this point, on day 20, except wait for the final outcome, & try to learn from it.

Nothing hatched yet as far as I know, but those hens are sitting tight! I keep going out there to see if I can hear any little peeps but every time I look into the coop the mean EE starts growling at me something awful, lol. Nothing from the incubator eggs but those are not due till tomorrow.

I agree. Nothing to be done but wait.
The cabinet incubator I built has crazy overkill on both controllers and high wattage heat elements. It will come to temperature and maintain in about 15 minutes no matter how many eggs are in it.
Depending on the incubator, IMHO when eggs are introduced to an incubator that is holding steady there is nothing to do but sit on one's hands till it settles down. An empty incubator that is holding steady will be in a tailspin when that mass of cool eggs goes in.
I've been extremely busy. I drove to Arkansas and brought home 3 bee hive nuclei. I've been trying to install them when the temp creeps up close to 70 so the brood doesn't get chilled but am able to prevent them swarming.
Trying to build trap nests and roll out nests for 5 coops.
I was recruited to join a second pool league because their best player had to switch shifts at his job.
For Wednesday's league, tonight is the first night of playoffs.
For Thursday's league, I'm sure we'll make the playoffs but we have to do well the last 2 weeks.

Final tally - I put 23 eggs in, although I was pretty sure 3 of those were earlier quitters, but they were marans so I wanted to play it safe. Unfortunately, that guess was correct. Of the 20 live eggs that went in, 15 made it out. Three of those that died were malpositions (upside down), and two seemed to have drowned without internal pipping. One of the survivors was an upside-down malposition I was able to assist out. It's name is Dumdum. It's tiny, but getting a little stronger every day! I had to actually do 4 assists of varying intensities, and they all survived. Shipped eggs, for ya.

Sounds typical for you; running in 17 directions at once.
Good luck in your playoffs. Ours is in 2 weeks. We won the first half, so we're going up against whoever the winner of the 2nd half is for the overall winner. We won it all last year, but we've really struggled in the 2nd half this season; only one team out of 10 below us.
The 2nd chick to pip broke the land speed record for zipping, and is staggering around like a drunken sailor. I hope I happened to see it when it had just cleared the shell & hadn't gotten it's legs working just right yet. The first pipper is still working at it.
