EE “Ameraucana” Hen or Roo?

Yeah, I a little obsessed at this point. I wish I would have gotten 2 EE's so I'd have more of a chance of at least getting one girl! I guess that's a beginner for you!

So, how many ended up being roos and how many hens?

4 roos and 2 hens is what I ended up with, gave them all away to my Aunt as I was able to acquire full grown hens at a decent price and skip the "raising them" part.

I'm leaning toward roo on this one. EEs are so tricky. I have five 4-week olds, and I waffle back-and-forth almost every day.

Thanks for the empathy! It feels silly loving a chicken so much, but s(he) has so much personality! It's the behavior that's got me most suspicious, you hit it right on. Still hoping though...

We had our hearts on blue eggs! I know it's still possible, but seeing as most people think BOO is a rooster (including myself), I was wondering if it would be okay to add another EE to the flock? Mine are 3 weeks old and I think the ones at the feed store are a week and half old or so.... am I too late to do this? They're all still in the brooder box inside most of the day... we just take little field trips to the back yard now and then to let them roam. They have the light on starting at 7 pm and I turn it off around 9am.

Just wondering if the new gal (hopefully) would get terribly picked on for being so little.

Of course I am planning on keeping BOO until I know 100% sure that it is a HE.

Thought I'd throw it out there. Y'all are so helpful! Thanks!

Even though they're still young, I say add 2!

Not just because I'm supporting chicken math but because then the newbies will have each other to hang with if they do get picked on a little and all the attention won't be focused on one newbie.

okay, so i'm thinking girl. why? girl coloring. it's not set in stone, but EE roos are usually a "silver duckwing" sort of color, while pullets are often "brown-red". as i said, it isn't set in stone. for your sake i hope you have a girl!

This makes sense... but in case BOO is a hen, my limit is 6 (city rules)...good point though...

Would adding 1 alienate it too much?

LOL, wait and see if I get an egg, OR an ANGRY NEIGHBOR! Time will tell!

I got one also and kicked myself for not getting two because she turned out to be a he. And had the same three distinct rows on the comb as yours does. But I have to say that the coloring is very different than my boy was. He was definitely mor of that silver duckwing like color. I noticed the white coming in on the shoulder feathers reall early. By 6 weeks I could tell. And I sent pictures to a Washington thread who is an expert. Illia may be able to help you tell earlier. Look her up and PM her the pics.

Thank you! I'll do that! I've been preparing my kids and last night my 3 year old daughter prayed to God to make BOO BOO chicken a girl! Guess that can't hurt either!
