Egg 2 days late pipped.. but yolk was dripping out.. HELP!

When my daughter and I assisted our chick, we did no with the fear that he may die. YOU helping him did NOT kill him! Dont feel bad. He probably wasn't meamt to make it and had something else happen. Do not beat yourself or feel bad. Ours was drying up and I knew we either had to help it out and expect it would die or let it die on it's own. Somehow, we got lucky. You did nothing wrong!

Please don't feel bad. You did what any of us would have done. For whatever reason, this little one wasn't destined to make it, and you tried to help. Since it had ruptured it's yolk sack, odds are it would have had intestine exposed. Please don't beat yourself up. You didn't kill your chick. Again, for whatever reason, this one was not meant to be.

thanks.. the support helps.. this was my first hatch.. and I haven't dealt with too much sadness.. I have only had one hen die... i was broken up about that.. We just got rid of our rooster .. that was hard for me even though he was beating up my hens..

I was video taping this hatch too.. and when movement stopped and chirping stopped.. I put my camera away. I had planned to make a video to the song "I'm a Survivor".. I just did another video and posted here to a love song.. sooo cute.. If anyone wants to see.. here it is: http://gallery.me.com/heatherjsims#100029

I had this chicks survivor video already in my head since I didn't think the egg was going to make it before b/c it was so late.. I guess that's life.. I'm going to bury the egg outside when my husband gets home.. I just threw a towel over the incubator and unplugged it.. sigh.

2 of mine, both from shipped eggs did this this hatch! I noticed the yolk bubbling out of one pipped egg, I think it was the 3rd egg to pip! By the time I saw it, it had dried yolk all around the hole, and I freaked a little and opened the incubator to check on it. I decided to help it hatch without taking the time to get on here to post, just followed my instincts! Glad I did! The yolk was dried onto it already and there's no way it would have been able to get out of that sticky mess by itself. It seems to be doing fine now at 3 days old, but it still has very gross looking down, no fluff t all! The other hatched by itself while I was at work, but the eggshell and area around the egg had a little yolk on them. It doesn't look like that one was as bad as the one I helped, though. But it also looks gross. I wonder if I should try to bathe them? lol

Like others have said, you did the best you could. Without your help he surely would have died. You gave him a chance. Sounds like there might have been problems with him and he could have died even after you got him clear of the eggshell.

Mana24. You can bathe them. If you can get the water to be 95-100 degrees, just use plain water and take off as much goo as you can. We've bathed them in a shallow bowl. Be careful not to get water down their nostrils. Then towel dry them and stick them under the brooder lamp. Viola! Cleaner chicky!

so i take took look at my chicks and the eggs are moving. Then i sniffed and

One of mine died halfway through zip this hatch. I was very sad.

And now I have one whose face is all messed up, only 1 eye and a crooked beak, so I may have to cull him. Hatching chicks isn't always fun!

I have read a lot of posts that say not to, but I did. I candled until they hatched. Quickly and carefully. Without disturbing too much. I will probably get scolded, but I did. :O

88heather--

So very sorry about the little one who didn't make it

I think it's wonderful you tried to help it. That takes courage & caring.

I don't have sound on my computer at the moment, but looked at your video. It is nicely done and the clarity is amazing! Beautiful spotted eggs, too--You will have some lovely eggs to be looking forward to when they start laying!
