Hi all. So I have a 2-year-old Lavender Orpington named Phoebe. She’s a wonderful hen, super sweet, great layer, follows you around like a dog. I’ve never had any issues with her as far as laying goes. Today, she started showing all of the signs of egg binding, and so I took her to the vet. They did an x-ray and confirmed that she is, indeed, egg bound. They gave her some fluids, a shot of calcium, and some lubricant in the vent. I brought her home and soaked her in an epsom salt bath for about 25 minutes white gently massaging the area. At first, I felt the egg, but I can’t feel it anymore, though her abdomen is still distended so I know she didn’t secretly pass it😂I set her aside in a dog crate with some towels and shavings, a heat lamp, and food and water. She has spent most of the time preening her wet feathers and ate a bit when I offered her food. I haven’t seen her drink but she may have when I wasn’t there. She has passed small poops so far. Anyone have any other tips or tricks on what to do for her? The vet said that they would be willing to do a procedure to remove the egg if need be, but that’s a last resort. Anyone know what to do? I was planning on soaking her again tonight and offering her some crushed up Tums tomorrow. I’m gonna keep her inside in the coop during the day and in the crate at night so she has continued access to nesting areas. How long can a hen realistically go without laying? Thanks so much for any help in advance!

I'm sorry that I can't think of anything else to help, but a egg bound hen will live about 2 days. Good luck!
