Egg bound or Internal laying or something completely different?

I keep reading threads like this so I can be prepared if anything ever goes wrong with any of my birds (Im still new)

I think I have a new goal in life... I want to be a chicken doctor

So Piglet is still hanging in there. We have her outside in the fresh air. She just stays under our back porch. She is happy to eat scrambled eggs and we have fresh water. I will see about getting a different antibiotic on Monday. I gave her yogurt, too but I think the dog ate it along with the smashed Tums that I mixed in. So I will try that again. She is still oozing yellowing muck from her vent. I am thinking this is good because all that in her abdomen needs to come out!

I will probably bathe her again or twice more before bedtime just to clean her up.

Still no idea how she will end up.

Threads like this is eye opening. So many things can go wrong, just judging from all the topics.

I wish you luck! I'm following this to see how she does. It always good to read these types of things. I am always paranoid that my chickens are sick or injured. Anything remotely odd sends me into a panic! I'm new to this. Got my first chicks in January and the started laying a few weeks ago. Whole new set of worries!

I was able to keep my girl going for 5 weeks, even though she was quite sick to start. I don't know what I could have done differently. Things are seldom under our control, even though we like to believe they are. Just do your best within your budget and your emotions, whatever the outcome.

I know that speckledhen has had several girls in this condition, and kept them alive for quite a long time using the Pen G injections.

Thank you! It is comforting to have the support. She is still the same. She didn't like the oatmeal so much so scrambled eggs are the trick, as far as eating goes. hmm..tomorrow I will try to sneak in the tums in the eggs or maybe just my own calcium tablet smashed. And Monday I will check into the other antibody. When I picked her up tonight her belly didn't seem so bad. And whe made her way under the porch by herself- so at least she is moving.

Steph - during that 5 weeks did you have her in your flock? I kind of think I should put her in one of the nesting boxes or something instead of isolating her. Any thoughts on that?

It was cold weather when my girl got sick, so I brought her in the house to lessen the stress to her from being out in the cold. Plus, that way I could really keep an eye on her. When we finished a course of antibiotics, I would start free-ranging her with the others, and then after a couple of days, put her back in the coop. After a week or two, we would see signs of problems, and start the cycle again. I know she missed her flock mates, but I think I would have kept her inside if I had to do it again, if it was winter. In summer, I'd definitely try to keep them with the flock as much as possible. They perk up so much.

Well, I let her out in the chicken run today. She did alright. A little slow and deliberate but she still moved around a little. Her abdomen doesn't seem as swollen today. Eggs are her favorite right now and left over rice and pork from dinner.

I bathed her bum twice and I will keep her inside again tonight. She is still breathing labored. hmm.. you never know!

Thanks for sticking with me!

I am perplexed! I put her back in with the girls this week and she has perked up and has actually ran a little (not full speed) but active. Her bum doesn't look runny anymore. Or as red as it was. Of course, no eggs coming from her. It is nice to see her happier.

I just thought I would update and officially close this thread. Piglet died about 2 months ago. She sure lived longer than I ever thought she would. I babyed when she first became sick but it seemed useless. So I let her be - living with flock of friends. We miss her and we are ready to add more to our brood! Thanks for all your input.
