Hello everyone,
New egg layer, First egg is egg Bound for 5 days going on 6 days I think there is a second egg coming!
DOB: 6-14-17 (almost 1 year old)
Partridge silkie
Eating, drinking and just started today to do the stand up stance! Have giving her Epsom salt bath, 2 rounds of Tums orally, heating pad, crated, mineral oil in vent and nutri-drench dose
Egg is still stuck and isn't coming out, I don't understand why! But I would like to help her I just don't know what else to do! I have heard that you can break the egg and suck the contents out but I don't even know how to do that and can't find any information on how it's done. She is still very alert and active but her vent is pulsating but it doesn't seem to be trying very hard or at all for that matter to expel the egg!
Any feed back would be much appreciated! Thank you

How is your hen doing now? Did she lay an egg? If not, Inwould try giving 1/2 of a human calcium tablet, a 1/2 Tums, or 1/2 finely crushed egg shell plus a little egg yolk orally. That cannhelp the muscles contract. Get her drinking some water as well. How long since she laid an egg, and was it normal? Lash eggs, which comes from infection and is made up of egg matter and pus, can sometimes feel like an egg and get stuck. They can also be found inside the abdomen. Have you inserted a finger into the vent to feel for an egg?

My hen has NEVER laid an egg before these 2 eggs would be her very first ones
Yes I have inserted my finger in her vent and yes I could feel the first egg
She is going on 8 days of being egg bound with 2 eggs! She is getting 2-3 750mg human Tums a day plus poultry Cell (yesterday) and b-complex with her tums this morning she is still eating and drinking and pooping! She is still very strong when I pull her out of the crate! She has had loads of mineral oil in the vent and Epsom salt soaks and sitting on a heating pad in her crate. My mother in law came down at 9pm last night to try and help me expel the egg manually we were at it for 1.5 hours and couldn't get it to even see the egg. We did 3 second contractions then release over and over while trying to keep the tip of the egg stable to come out the vent but couldn't get it close enough to the vent to make a hole to suck the contents out. Or even see the egg at all for that matter
Now I'm wondering if it is possible for her to have internal worms and if that could be why she can't lay the egg?
Or if the egg is to big?
Or if the past parasite problem caused this issue?
Or if she has an infection where the egg passes through?
I have roosters that have totally over mates her to no end. Her back looks like a naked chicken! But also I had northern fowl mites for about 1-2 months and finally got rid of them about 2 weeks ago

Since she has never laid, I would think that what you are feeling are possibly lash eggs inside her abdomen or her oviduct. Those can be firm and shaped similar to an egg, but are actually tissue that is produced by an infection. Sometimes they can get stuck. Since you have been treating this for so long, I would consult with an avian vet if possible. Is she passing droppings? How well is she eating and drinking, and is she able to walk around? I would stop the Tums, since they have not helped so far, and could cause constipation and kidney problems if continued.

There is no possible way I'm able to take her to the vet, plus the closest one is 2 hours away; we have drained our emergency fund. Husband totalled our Vehicle, then emergency dental appointment, then a after hours vet visit for our dog for Lyme disease and tick disease!! And now baby chickie has something wrong with her! WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS!! It has and is really breaking my heart cause she is my little sweetie!!
*Do you think a poop sample to the vet would give any clue to an infection of some kind?
* So if she does indeed have lash eggs it's possible for it to happen again or it's possible for her to have a serious disease and infect the whole flock?
* As much as I have not been wanting to do this but I kinda feel it would be better for her to not have to live in the dark and be in pain (which I would think she is) is to put her down and open her up or idk maybe call the state tomorrow and see if they would want to test her! Idk about any of that stuff but I'm very curious and concerned to why whatever it is won't come out!

*Is there a site that says what you need to look for in the organs and just an all around explanation of how to open a chicken up?
