Egg broke inside first-time layer! *Update- egg bound!

Update- so she is actually egg bound! I don't know if the egg is partially broken, but what I can feel and see is intact, so maybe the yolk- like fluid was just fluid from her oviduct being forced out. Anyway she has a very large egg stuck which is causing her vent to get more prolapsed. She's had two warm baths and I've lubed things up but it's not coming out so far. She was tired so I finally got her set up in a cage in my bathroom with some food and electrolytes. Hopefully with some rest things can relax a bit and she'll have energy in the morning to work it out. Last resort if she can't pass it in the morning I will drain the egg and gently break it to get it out as carefully as possible. Either way I will give her antibiotics because she has had a tiny bit of bleeding from her vent and the trauma to it.

Thank you all for the help! I will update tomorrow.

If a vet is possible to help get the egg out, that would be good. Lash eggs are large egg shaped material that can get stuck in the oviduct, and they are from infection from salpingitis. Lash egg or a very large normal egg could be possible. Shell-less eggs can be hard to pass as well. If you have not given some calcium (Tums, human calcium tablet, crushed egg shells, etc,) give som and make sure that she is drinking well, since low calcium and dehydration are common causes of egg binding. Placing her in a warm moist room, such as a bathroom with warm steam is also good.

I would also get some coconut oil, put on a surgical glove and grease up her cloaca liberally. If you have Peparation H, use that to reduce swelling. You do not want to break the egg.

Give her the calcium as Eggcessive says. I like calcium citrate since it has other minerals and is easy to absorb. This hardens the shell if the egg is soft, making it easier to pass.

Set up a warm soak in a basin in your batch room and fill it with warm water the same temp as you would your bath, nice a warm. Then run the shower and create lots of steam in the air.

Now install our patient in her spa and let her soak. Keep the water nice and warm. But try to keep her calm and relaxed. I find "shhing" noises help an upset chicken calm down.

After a half hour, set up a crate in the steamy bathroom. Place her on a warm, wet towel in the crate. A heating pad on low setting under the damp towel will help further this process. Dim the light and leave her alone for a while.

Hopefully the egg will slide out.

Still hasn't passed it. It's just not fitting through. The shell is hard. She's sitting in a warm bath again and I've got my shower running hot to get it steamy. She's very uncomfortable.
