Egg in leg????

me too!

I agree wholeheartedly with Ruth. I would wash the area well with betadine or chlorhexadine, take a scalpel and make a slit as big as you need, remove whatever it is, rinse it out with slightly salted water, and close it up. I might just start some penicillin afterwards, too.

It looks like a snake bite to me.

So sorry for the delay in updating all of you - especially the ones that are diligently waiting by their monitors for just an update!

I have not had the baby yet (2 more weeks and everyone is pretty confident I'll make my due date) and I also haven't done anything with the hen. The lump has not changed in shape or size. The only thing I'd say has changed is the small scabs that are on it have increased in size (maybe 4 times the size they were in the photos).

She still does not seem bothered by it at all and she is still able to fly up into the coop to roost at night (probably 36" - 40" of the ground)

Also, I would have posted an update sooner, but for some reason, I stopped receiving emails that people had posted to this topic. Hopefully now that I've made another post, I will get the notifications again.

Hi Robin- good to hear that you and the baby are OK!
keep us updated...I wonder about those scabs getting bigger. Do you think that the other chickens have picked at them?
Maybe the mass is rubbing somewhere when she perches or something.
Im still very interested to know what the thing is, so let us know!
Good Luck with the baby...I remember that time well, and it was very uncomfortable!...of course my hard headed son was 10 days late and engaged for the last 3 weeks, so it was hard to even walk! Silly me, I didnt want to induce because I thought he should figure out when to come out....well, we did induce finally and he came out fine with a perfectly round head...!
he was really ticked that we made him come out of his nice warm place!...and he is still exactly the same 16 years later...stubborn;-)

Not sure who all is still following this thread, but I have some unfortunate news. We lost two chickens the other day when my husband decided to the gamble that it was safe to let them free range. Rooster was one and the hen with the mass was the other. It never had gotten any bigger nor did it seem to bother her, but it did appear to hinder her running, so I hate to say it probably helped in causing her capture & demise. We are guessing coyote or new neighborhood dog (part Border Collie). Now we'll never know what it was. I can only hope it made whatever had her for lunch, very sick!!

Some good news is baby arrived Feb. 15th at 8:01pm at a very healthy 11 pounds 9 ounces and 22 inches long. (Yes, I have big babies and no, I didn't have gestational diabetes)

Labor was long at over 72 hours, but the contractions were always varied between 5-30 minutes apart, so if you ask the hospital, I never was in labor.

I decided on a c-section since the medical interventions they were talking about did not mean I'd be able to deliver normally. Everyone is glad I chose surgery though after they saw how big my baby girl was!

I didn't think to upload pictures before writing this post, so I'll have to post again after I have some up.

Here are 2 pictures. The first is day 2 in the hospital. I'm sitting in bed holding my 2 girls. My new little girl and my 26 month old daughter.

The second picture is when she was 5 days old.

We named her Corinn Moira (core-INN MOY-rah).
