What are people using to mark their eggs? #2 pencil is just such a fine line to read. Any kind of marker okay? Someone tell me a Sharpie is not harmful please!

I don't mark my quail eggs, but I use whichever marker I grab first on my chicken/duck/guinea eggs, doesn't seem to bother them.

Sharpies work well. I use black and not red as they seem to like to peck anything red if you are using a broody. A soft-leaded pencil will work but it can be hard to see if you are writing a date or something. I just put patterns with a sharpie.

I don't mark my eggs, but it seems like a waxy pencil, like a china marker would work well...maybe even a crayon?

Thank everyone. Fine point sharpie will be the weapon of choice. Now I will start putting dates one eggs as they are collected, should help me with figuring out what works best with my birds in the local environment.
